How to Use

Dosage

For sudden diarrhea, take 2 capsules first, then 1 capsule after each loose stool, but do not exceed 8 capsules per day.

Method

Swallow the capsules whole with liquid. You can take them at any time of day.

Important

Do not take more than 8 capsules in a 24-hour period.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • headache
  • dizziness
  • constipation
  • feeling sick (nausea)
  • gas
RARE
  • Severe allergic reactions like swelling of the face, tongue, or throat, difficulty breathing, hives, or skin redness/blisters.
  • Severe stomach pain and/or swelling, which could be signs of a blocked or enlarged bowel.
  • Extreme tiredness, muscle stiffness, problems with coordination, or loss of consciousness.
  • Upper stomach pain, back pain from the stomach, tender stomach, fever, fast pulse, feeling sick, or vomiting, which can be symptoms of sudden pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas).
  • Drowsiness
  • stomach pain or discomfort

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to loperamide hydrochloride or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not give to children under 6 years old (under 20 kg).
  • Do not use if you have bloody stools or high fever with diarrhea.
  • Stop taking Imocur and contact your doctor if your diarrhea does not stop within 2 days.
  • Drink plenty of fluids to replace what you lose from diarrhea, especially for children.

  • Stop taking Imocur if your stool becomes firm or hard, or if you don't have a bowel movement for 24 hours.
  • If you have AIDS and your stomach swells while taking Imocur, stop immediately and contact your doctor.
  • If you have liver problems, talk to your doctor before using Imocur.
  • Never take more than the recommended dose, as too much loperamide can cause serious heart problems.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category A

Suitable for older adults. For treatment of diarrhoea for no more than two days. Do not use for the treatment of febrile diarrhoea. Avoid grapefruit. (updated 20.5.2024)
