Imipenem/Cilastatin Noridem is an antibiotic medicine that kills many different bacteria causing infections in the body, and it can be used for adults and children aged one year and older.
Your doctor will decide how much Imipenem/Cilastatin Noridem you need. Typically, for adults and adolescents, the recommended dose is 500 mg/500 mg every 6 hours or 1000 mg/1000 mg every 6–8 hours. For children aged one year and older, the dose is 15 mg/15 mg or 25 mg/25 mg per kg body weight every 6 hours. Your doctor might change your dose if you have kidney problems.
The medicine is given as an infusion into a vein. Doses up to 500 mg/500 mg are given over 20–30 minutes, and doses over 500 mg/500 mg are given over 40–60 minutes. If you start to feel unwell during the infusion, the rate can be slowed down.
Your doctor will determine the maximum daily dose for you. For adults, this is generally up to 4000 mg per day, and for children, the doctor will calculate the dose based on their weight.
