How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will tell you exactly how many tablets to take. The usual starting dose is often 400 mg or 600 mg daily. In some cases, up to 800 mg daily.

Method

Take Imatinib Stada with food. Swallow the tablet whole with a large glass of water. If you cannot swallow it, you can dissolve it in water or apple juice (about 50 ml per 100 mg tablet) and drink the mixture right away.

Important

The maximum daily dose for adults is generally 800 mg. For children, your doctor will set the safe maximum dose.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Headache or feeling tired
  • Feeling sick (nausea), vomiting, diarrhea, or indigestion
  • Skin rash and itching
  • Muscle cramps or pain in joints, muscles, or bones
  • Swelling, for example around your eyes or ankles
  • Loss of appetite, weight loss, or changes in taste
  • Dizziness or weakness
  • Trouble sleeping (insomnia)
  • Red, itchy, watery, or blurry eyes
  • Nosebleeds
  • Stomach pain or bloating, gas, heartburn, or constipation
  • Unusual hair loss or thinning
  • Numbness in hands or feet
  • Mouth sores
  • Dry mouth, skin, or eyes
  • Increased or decreased skin sensitivity
  • Hot flashes, chills, or night sweats
RARE
  • Chest pain, irregular heartbeat; cough, difficulty breathing, or painful breathing
  • Feeling sick with loss of appetite, dark urine, or yellow skin/eyes (signs of liver problems); greatly reduced urine or feeling very thirsty (signs of kidney problems)
  • Severe skin rash with blisters, peeling skin, fever, red or purple patches; blisters on skin or mucous membranes; sudden skin swelling and redness (a skin infection)
  • Severe stomach pain, blood in vomit/stool/urine, or black stools; feeling sick with diarrhea, vomiting, stomach pain, or fever
  • Severe headache, weakness or paralysis in limbs/face, difficulty speaking, or sudden loss of consciousness; confusion
  • Pale skin, feeling tired and breathless, or dark urine (signs of low red blood cells); increased tendency to bruise; blood clots in small blood vessels
  • Bone or joint pain (signs of bone damage); muscle cramps with fever, reddish-brown urine, pain or weakness in muscles
  • Pelvic pain with nausea/vomiting, unexpected vaginal bleeding, dizziness/fainting from low blood pressure (signs of ovary or womb problems)
  • Eye pain or worsening vision, bleeding in the eyes; hearing loss; cold or numb fingers and toes (signs of Raynaud's syndrome); dizziness or fainting (signs of low blood pressure)
  • Muscle weakness and cramps with irregular heartbeat (due to changes in blood potassium); abnormal lab results (e.g., high potassium, uric acid, calcium, or low phosphate); nail color changes

Important Warnings

  • Tell your doctor if you have or have had problems with your liver, kidneys, or heart.
  • If you gain weight very quickly, tell your doctor right away, as it could be fluid build-up in your body.
  • Protect your skin from the sun, as this medicine can make you more sensitive to sunlight.
  • Contact your doctor immediately if you notice easy bruising, bleeding, fever, extreme tiredness, or confusion.
