How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will decide your dose, usually 400 mg or 600 mg daily.

Method

Take tablets with food to prevent stomach upset. Swallow whole with a large glass of water. If you cannot swallow, dissolve tablets in about 50 ml of sparkling water or apple juice and drink immediately.

Important

The maximum daily dose for adults is usually 800 mg (8 tablets).

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Weight gain
  • Headache
  • Tiredness
  • Feeling sick (nausea), throwing up (vomiting), diarrhea, or stomach upset
  • Skin rash
  • Muscle cramps, or pain in joints, muscles, or bones
  • Swelling, for example in ankles or around the eyes
  • Loss of appetite, weight loss, or changes in taste
  • Dizziness or weakness
  • Sleep problems (insomnia)
  • Eye problems like discharge, itching, redness, swelling, watery eyes, or blurred vision
  • Nosebleeds
  • Belly pain or swelling, gas, heartburn, or constipation
  • Itching
  • Unusual hair loss or thinning
  • Numbness in hands or feet
  • Mouth sores
  • Dry mouth, dry skin, or dry eyes
  • Decreased or increased skin sensitivity
  • Hot flashes, chills, or night sweats
RARE
  • Chest pain or changes in heart rhythm
  • Cough, trouble breathing, or pain when breathing
  • Yellow skin or eyes, dark urine, and loss of appetite (signs of liver problems)
  • Severe skin rash with blisters, peeling skin, fever, or red/purple spots
  • Severe stomach pain, blood in vomit/stools/urine, or black stools
  • Severe headache, weakness or paralysis of limbs/face, trouble speaking, or sudden loss of consciousness (signs of nervous system problems)
  • Pale skin, tiredness, shortness of breath, and dark urine (signs of low red blood cells)
  • Eye pain or poor vision, or bleeding in the eyes
  • Pain in bones or joints (signs of bone damage)
  • Numbness or coldness in fingers and toes (Raynaud's syndrome)
  • Hearing loss
  • Severe muscle cramps with fever, reddish-brown urine, pain, and muscle weakness (signs of muscle damage)
  • Blood clots in small vessels
  • Confusion or seizures
  • Nail discoloration
  • Slow growth in children and teenagers

Important Warnings

  • Tell your doctor if you have or have had serious liver, kidney, or heart problems.
  • Tell your doctor if you have ever had Hepatitis B, as this medicine can make it active again.
  • Contact your doctor immediately if you have sudden weight gain or severe swelling, as this could be fluid retention.
  • Seek medical help if you get signs of infection like fever, strong chills, sore throat, or mouth sores.
  • Tell your doctor if you have unexpected bleeding or bruising.

  • This medicine can make you feel dizzy, sleepy, or have blurred vision. Do not drive or operate machines if you have these symptoms.
  • Do not use if pregnant or breastfeeding. Use effective birth control during treatment and for 15 days after.
