How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will tell you the correct dose; typically, adults start with 400 mg or 600 mg once daily.

Method

Take the medicine with food to avoid stomach problems and swallow the tablets whole with a large glass of water. If you cannot swallow the tablets, dissolve them in about 200 ml of still water or apple juice and drink immediately.

Important

The maximum daily dose for adults is generally 800 mg, taken as one or two doses per day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Rapid weight gain or swelling (fluid retention).
  • Symptoms of infection, such as fever, chills, sore throat, or mouth sores.
  • Unexpected bleeding or bruising.
  • Headache or feeling tired.
  • Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or indigestion.
  • Skin rash.
  • Muscle cramps or pain in joints, muscles, or bones.
  • Swelling (e.g., swollen eyelids or ankles).
RARE
  • Chest pain, irregular heartbeat (heart problems).
  • Cough, shortness of breath, or pain when breathing (lung problems).
  • Feeling dizzy, lightheaded, or fainting (low blood pressure).
  • Nausea, loss of appetite, dark urine, or yellowing of skin/eyes (liver problems).
  • Severe skin reactions, such as rash, blisters, skin redness, or peeling.
  • Severe stomach pain, blood in vomit, stools, or urine, or black stools (digestive problems).
  • Significantly reduced urine output or feeling thirsty (kidney problems).
  • Eye pain, blurred vision, or bleeding in the eyes.
  • Confusion, seizures, or loss of consciousness.

Important Warnings

  • Tell your doctor if you have or have had liver, kidney, or heart problems.
  • If you have had hepatitis B, the medicine may reactivate it. Tell your doctor.
  • You may become more sensitive to sunlight. Use sunscreen and cover your skin.
  • If you gain weight quickly or experience swelling, tell your doctor immediately, as the medicine can cause fluid retention.
  • Do not use this medicine if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, as it may harm your child. Use contraception during treatment and for 15 days after.
