How to Use

Dosage

The usual dose is one injection (3 ml, 30 mg) for adults. For children (2-17 years old and weighing at least 12 kg), the dose is 1 ml up to a maximum of 3 ml, based on their body weight.

Method

This medicine is given as an injection under the skin of the stomach (abdomen) as soon as you notice symptoms of an angioedema attack.

Important

Adults can have up to 3 injections within 24 hours. If you need more than 8 injections in a month, talk to your doctor.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Reactions where the injection was given, such as pain, bruising, numbness, itching, warmth, swelling, or rash.
  • Feeling sick to your stomach (nausea)
  • Headache
  • Dizziness
  • Fever
  • Itching
  • Skin rash
  • Redness of the skin
  • Abnormal liver test results
RARE
  • Hives (itchy red welts)

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to icatibant or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have heart problems (reduced blood flow to the heart muscle) or if you have recently had a stroke.
  • Tell your doctor right away if your HAE symptoms get worse after taking this medicine.
  • If you have swelling in your throat (upper airway blockage) when taking this medicine, seek medical help immediately.
  • If your symptoms do not get better after the injection, talk to your doctor about needing more doses.

  • Do not breastfeed for 12 hours after your last dose of this medicine.
  • Do not drive or use machines if you feel tired or dizzy after an HAE attack or after using this medicine.
