How to Use
Dosage
For adults, the usual dose is one 3 ml (30 mg) injection. For children aged 2-17, the dose is 1 to 3 ml depending on body weight, or the full 3 ml if over 65 kg.
Method
It is given as an injection under the skin, usually in the belly area. A healthcare professional will show you how to do it safely.
Important
Do not take more than 3 injections in a 24-hour period. If you need more than 8 injections in a month, talk to your doctor.
Possible Side Effects
COMMON
- •Reactions at the injection site (pressure, bruising, reduced sensation and/or numbness, raised itchy rash, and feeling warm).
RARE
- •Nausea
- •Headache
- •Dizziness
- •Fever
- •Itching
- •Rash
- •Redness of the skin
- •Abnormal liver function tests
- •Hives (urticaria)
Important Warnings
- Do not use this medicine if you are allergic to icatibant or any of its ingredients.
- Tell your doctor if you have chest pain (angina) or have recently had a stroke.
- If your HAE attack symptoms worsen after using this medicine, especially if you have swelling in your throat that makes it hard to breathe, get medical help right away.
- If you are breastfeeding, do not breastfeed for 12 hours after an injection.
- Do not drive or use machines if you feel tired or dizzy due to a HAE attack or after taking this medicine.
