How to Use

Dosage

For adults, the usual dose is one 3 ml (30 mg) injection. For children aged 2-17, the dose is 1 to 3 ml depending on body weight, or the full 3 ml if over 65 kg.

Method

It is given as an injection under the skin, usually in the belly area. A healthcare professional will show you how to do it safely.

Important

Do not take more than 3 injections in a 24-hour period. If you need more than 8 injections in a month, talk to your doctor.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Reactions at the injection site (pressure, bruising, reduced sensation and/or numbness, raised itchy rash, and feeling warm).
RARE
  • Nausea
  • Headache
  • Dizziness
  • Fever
  • Itching
  • Rash
  • Redness of the skin
  • Abnormal liver function tests
  • Hives (urticaria)

Important Warnings

  • Do not use this medicine if you are allergic to icatibant or any of its ingredients.
  • Tell your doctor if you have chest pain (angina) or have recently had a stroke.
  • If your HAE attack symptoms worsen after using this medicine, especially if you have swelling in your throat that makes it hard to breathe, get medical help right away.
  • If you are breastfeeding, do not breastfeed for 12 hours after an injection.
  • Do not drive or use machines if you feel tired or dizzy due to a HAE attack or after taking this medicine.
