Icatibant Ratiopharm

Icatibant ratiopharm is a medicine used to treat symptoms of hereditary angioedema (HAE) in adults and children aged 2 years and older by blocking the substance that causes the attacks.

How to Use

Dosage

Adults receive one 3 ml (30 mg) injection under the skin as soon as symptoms of a hereditary angioedema (HAE) attack appear. For children aged 2-17, the dose is 1 ml to 3 ml based on body weight, given under the skin as soon as symptoms appear.

Method

This medicine is given as an injection under the skin (subcutaneously) in the fatty tissue of the abdomen. Each pre-filled syringe is for single use only.

Important

Adults can take up to two additional injections within 24 hours if symptoms persist, but no more than 3 injections in total within 24 hours. For children, follow your doctor's instructions, but do not exceed 3 injections in 24 hours.

  • Raised itchy rash at the injection site
  • Warm feeling at the injection site

  • Abnormal liver function tests
RARE
  • Hives (urticaria)

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to icatibant or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Tell your doctor if you have chest pain (angina) or have recently had a stroke.
  • If your HAE attack symptoms get worse after using Icatibant ratiopharm, tell your doctor right away.
  • If you have a laryngeal (throat) attack and inject yourself (or have a caregiver inject you), go to a hospital or clinic right after the injection.
