Icatibant Glenmark

Icatibant Glenmark is a medicine used to treat symptoms of hereditary angioedema (HAE) in adults, adolescents, and children aged 2 years and older by blocking the effect of bradykinin.

How to Use

Dosage

Adults receive one injection (3 ml, 30 mg) and children (2-17 years) receive a weight-based dose (1-3 ml, 10-30 mg) as soon as an HAE attack starts.

Method

The medicine is given as an injection under the skin into the fatty tissue of the abdomen. Each pre-filled syringe is for single use only.

Important

No more than 3 injections within 24 hours. If you need more than 8 injections in a month, talk to your doctor.

  • Injection site reactions (e.g., feeling of pressure, bruising, reduced sensation, numbness, raised itchy rash, feeling of warmth)
  • Nausea
  • Headache
  • Dizziness
  • Fever
  • Itching
  • Rash
  • Skin redness
  • Abnormal liver function test
RARE
  • Hives

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to icatibant or any other ingredients of this medicine.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have angina (chest pain from reduced blood flow to the heart) or have recently had a stroke.
  • Tell your doctor immediately if your attack symptoms worsen after receiving this medicine.
  • If you have an attack involving swelling in the larynx (airway blockage), seek immediate medical attention.
  • If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to become pregnant, ask your doctor for advice. Do not breastfeed for 12 hours after taking this medicine.
