How to Use

Your doctor or nurse will decide your exact dose based on your health.

Method

This medicine is given slowly into a vein in a hospital by a healthcare worker.

Important

The most you can get in one day is 340 mmol of calcium, which is about one liter of Icalziss.

Possible Side Effects

RARE
  • Too much or too little fluid in your body.
  • High or low calcium levels in your blood.
  • Blood that is too acidic or too alkaline (not balanced).
  • Unbalanced electrolytes (like low potassium or phosphate, or too much chloride in your blood).
  • Low blood pressure.
  • Low body temperature.
  • Irritation, burning, tissue damage, or swelling at the injection site if the medicine is not given correctly.
  • Feeling very tired (fatigue).
  • Tingling feeling.
  • No energy.
  • Feeling confused or not knowing where you are.
  • Feeling sick to your stomach and throwing up (nausea and vomiting).
  • Hard to have a bowel movement (constipation).
  • Fast, slow, or uneven heartbeats.
  • High blood pressure.
  • Peeing more often, feeling very thirsty, or being dehydrated.
  • A chalky taste in your mouth.
  • Hot flashes.
  • Severe vomiting, stomach pain, weak bowel muscles, blocked bowels, general weakness, and severe confusion, possibly leading to little or no urination (these are signs of very high calcium).

Important Warnings

  • Do not use Icalziss if your blood calcium is too high.
  • Do not use Icalziss if your blood chloride is too high.
  • Do not use Icalziss if you are allergic to it or any of its ingredients.
  • Do not use Icalziss for newborns who are taking a medicine called ceftriaxone.
  • Tell your doctor if you take heart medicines called digitalis glycosides, as Icalziss can affect your heart rhythm.

  • Icalziss may increase your chance of getting kidney stones.
  • The nurse will check the injection site often to make sure there is no swelling or leaking.
  • Do not use this medicine if the package is broken or if the liquid looks cloudy, discolored, or has particles in it.
