How to Use

Dosage

The recommended dose for adults is 400 mg as an intravenous infusion every 6 to 8 hours as needed.

Method

It is given as an intravenous infusion (into a vein) over 30 minutes.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 1200 mg and should not be exceeded.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Tiredness or sleeplessness, headache, and dizziness.
  • Heartburn, stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, gas, diarrhea, constipation, and minor stomach or intestinal bleeding, which can sometimes cause anemia.
  • Sudden skin rash.
  • Pain and burning sensation at the injection site.
  • Stomach or intestinal ulcers, possibly with bleeding or a hole. Also, mouth sores, and worsening of colon inflammation (colitis) or Crohn's disease.
RARE
  • Sleeplessness, agitation, irritability, tiredness, anxiety, and restlessness.
  • Vision problems.
  • Ringing or buzzing in the ears (tinnitus).
  • Inflammation of the stomach lining (gastritis).
  • Reduced urine, swelling (fluid retention) especially with high blood pressure or kidney problems, kidney disease, or sudden kidney failure.
  • Hives, itching, red or purple spots on the skin, skin rash, allergic reactions with rash, itching, and asthma attacks (possibly with low blood pressure).
  • Reversible blurred vision or double vision.
  • Hearing loss.
  • Blood disorders (like anemia, low white blood cells, low platelets, severe lack of certain white blood cells). First signs can be fever, sore throat, mouth sores, flu-like symptoms, extreme tiredness, nosebleeds, and skin bleeding.
  • Fast heartbeat (palpitations), heart failure, heart attack.
  • High blood pressure.
  • Aseptic meningitis (stiff neck, headache, nausea, vomiting, fever, or confusion), especially in people with autoimmune diseases like lupus.
  • Inflammation of the esophagus or pancreas, narrowed intestines.
  • Asthma, breathing difficulties (bronchospasm), shortness of breath, and wheezing.
  • Severe allergic reactions including swelling of the face, tongue, throat, and airways, difficulty breathing, fast heart rate, low blood pressure, and life-threatening shock.
  • Chest pain, possibly a sign of a serious allergic reaction (Kounis syndrome).
  • Liver failure.
  • Reactions at the injection site, such as swelling, bruising, or bleeding.
  • Severe skin reaction called DRESS syndrome, with symptoms like rash, fever, swollen lymph nodes, and an increase in a type of white blood cell (eosinophils).
  • Red, scaly, widespread rash with bumps and blisters under the skin, especially in skin folds, on the body and arms, along with fever at the start of treatment (acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis).

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to ibuprofen or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Do not take if you have ever had breathing difficulties, asthma, rash, runny nose, or facial swelling after taking ibuprofen, aspirin, or similar painkillers.
  • Do not take if you have a condition that increases your risk of bleeding or if you have active bleeding.
  • Do not take if you have or have had recurrent stomach ulcers or stomach bleeding (two or more episodes).
  • Do not take if you have a history of stomach or intestinal bleeding or perforation caused by NSAIDs.

  • Do not take if you have a brain hemorrhage or other active bleeding.
  • Do not take if you have severe kidney, liver, or heart disease.
  • Do not take if you are severely dehydrated (due to vomiting, diarrhea, or not drinking enough fluids).
  • Do not take if you are in the last three months of pregnancy.
  • Stop using this medicine and contact your doctor immediately if you notice any severe skin reactions, such as red target-like spots, blisters, or skin peeling, which may be preceded by fever or flu-like symptoms.
  • Stop using this medicine immediately and seek medical help if you experience signs of an allergic reaction like breathing difficulties, swelling of the face or throat, or chest pain.
  • Using medicines like ibuprofen may slightly increase the risk of heart attack or stroke, especially with high doses. Do not exceed the recommended dose or treatment duration.
  • This medicine should not be used in children and adolescents under 18 years of age.
  • This medicine is for short-term acute treatment only and should not be used for more than 3 days.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. For short-term use only. Consider adverse renal effect in chronic kidney disease. Do not use in severe renal impairment. Increases swelling, worsens renal and heart failure and causes cardiovascular events. Increases risk of bleeding, especially in the gastrointestinal tract. Consider potential interactions especially with preparations that increase risk of bleeding. (updated 16.9.2024)
