How to Use

Dosage

For adults, the usual dose is one 600 mg tablet 3-4 times a day. For children under 12, the daily dose is 20-40 mg per kg of body weight, divided into 3-4 doses, with a single dose not exceeding 10 mg per kg.

Method

Take the tablets with plenty of liquid, such as a glass of water. You can take Ibumetin with or without food. Taking it with food may reduce stomach upset.

Important

For adults, the maximum daily dose is 3200 mg, and a single dose should not exceed 1600 mg.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Increased bruising or nosebleeds
  • Low mood or drowsiness
  • Dizziness or headache
  • Worsening heart failure (increased swelling or shortness of breath)
  • Heartburn, upper stomach pain, nausea, or diarrhea
  • Hives, itchy skin, or severe swelling of skin or mucous membranes
RARE
  • Confusion, nightmares, blurred vision, hallucinations, or paranoia
  • Skin tingling or numbness without a clear cause
  • Mouth inflammation, ulcers, bleeding in the digestive tract, or bloody stools
  • Reduced number of blood platelets (leading to more bruising or nosebleeds)
  • Reduced or absent white blood cells (may cause unexplained fever, flu-like symptoms, or sore throat)
  • Blurred vision or changes in the cornea
  • Meningitis (especially in patients with certain connective tissue diseases)
  • Worsening symptoms of coronary artery disease (increased chest pain) or arrhythmias
  • Worsening shortness of breath or asthma
  • Perforations in the digestive tract, worsening inflammatory bowel disease, salivary gland inflammation, or pancreatitis
  • Increased liver enzyme levels, jaundice (yellow skin), or liver inflammation (may cause upper abdominal pain)
  • Severe peeling or blistering skin/mucous membrane reactions, light sensitivity, worsening acne, or psoriasis
  • Worsening kidney function
  • Severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis)
  • Reduced hearing
  • Chest pain, which can be a sign of a serious allergic reaction (Kounis syndrome)

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you have or have had stomach or intestinal ulcers, bleeding, or a hole in your digestive tract.
  • Do not use if you have a bleeding disorder or if you are taking blood-thinning medication (e.g., warfarin).
  • Do not use if you have severe heart failure.
  • Do not use during the last three months of pregnancy, as it can harm your unborn baby.
  • Do not use if you have asthma and are allergic to aspirin or other anti-inflammatory pain relievers.

  • Do not use if you are allergic to ibuprofen or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Using this medicine, especially in high doses and for a long time, may slightly increase the risk of heart attack or stroke. Do not take more than recommended or for longer than advised.
  • Stop using Ibumetin immediately and contact a doctor or emergency room if you experience difficulty breathing, swelling of the face or throat, or chest pain. These can be signs of a serious allergic reaction.
  • Stop using Ibumetin immediately and contact a doctor if you notice severe skin reactions like red, scaly rash, blisters, or skin peeling. This includes fever and flu-like symptoms before the rash appears.
  • Ibumetin can hide signs of infection like fever and pain. If you have an infection and your symptoms do not improve or get worse, contact your doctor immediately.
  • Long-term use of pain relievers can cause headaches. Do not increase your dose if you get a headache from this medicine.
  • Children and adolescents who are dehydrated are at risk of kidney problems.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. For short-term use only. Consider adverse renal effect in chronic kidney disease. Do not use in severe renal impairment. Increases swelling, worsens renal and heart failure and causes cardiovascular events. Increases risk of bleeding, especially in the gastrointestinal tract. Consider potential interactions especially with preparations that increase risk of bleeding. (updated 16.9.2024)
