How to Use

Dosage

One Ibandronate ratiopharm 150 mg tablet once a month.

Method

Take the tablet whole with at least 1.8 dl of plain water in the morning, at least 6 hours after your last food or drink (other than water), and at least 1 hour before your first food or drink of the day. Do not lie down, eat, drink anything (except water), or take other medicines for 60 minutes after taking the tablet. Do not chew, crush, or let the tablet dissolve in your mouth.

Important

One tablet per month.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Headache
  • Heartburn, discomfort when swallowing, stomach pain (which may be due to stomach inflammation), indigestion, nausea, diarrhea (loose stools)
  • Bone pain, sore muscles and joints, muscle cramps, stiffness in joints and limbs
  • Flu-like symptoms, including fever, chills, general discomfort, bone pain, and sore muscles and joints. Talk to a nurse or doctor if symptoms become troublesome or last for several days.
  • Rash
RARE
  • Severe chest pain, severe pain when swallowing food or drink, severe nausea or vomiting, difficulty swallowing. You may have severe inflammation of the esophagus, possibly with ulcers or narrowing of the esophagus.
  • Symptoms of low calcium levels in the blood (hypocalcemia), including muscle cramps or spasms and/or tingling in the fingers or around the mouth.
  • Dizziness
  • Flatulence (gas and bloated feeling)
  • Back pain
  • Tiredness and fatigue
  • Asthma attacks
  • Itching; swelling of the face, lips, tongue and throat, with difficulty breathing
  • Persistent eye pain and inflammation
  • New pain, weakness, or discomfort in the thigh, hip, or groin. These symptoms may be early signs of an unusual thigh bone fracture.
  • Duodenal inflammation (inflammation of the first part of the small intestine), causing stomach pain
  • Hives
  • Pain or tenderness in the mouth or jaw, which may be an early sign of serious jaw-related problems (osteonecrosis of the jaw, i.e., bone tissue death)
  • Tell your doctor if you have ear pain, ear infection and/or discharge from the ear. These may be symptoms of bone damage in the ear.
  • Severe and possibly life-threatening allergic reaction
  • Severe skin reactions

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to ibandronic acid or any other ingredients.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have problems with your esophagus, like difficulty swallowing or narrowing.
  • You must be able to stand or sit upright for at least one hour after taking the tablet.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have or have had low calcium levels in your blood.
  • Tell your doctor or pharmacist before treatment if you have any mouth or dental problems, poor dental health, gum disease, or if you plan to have a tooth removed, or if you don't visit the dentist regularly.
