How to Use

Dosage

For replacement therapy, the usual dose is 15-25 mg per day, divided into 2-3 doses. Your doctor will adjust the dose based on your specific needs and condition.

Method

Swallow the tablets with a little liquid, with or without food. You can divide the tablet into equal doses if needed.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • High blood pressure.
  • Increased risk of infections; symptoms of infection might be hidden.
  • Insufficient hormone production by pituitary and adrenal glands with long-term use.
  • Rounded face (sometimes called 'moon face').
  • Worsening of existing diabetes or new onset diabetes.
  • Muscle cramps or twitches due to potassium loss.
  • Fluid retention (body retaining too much sodium).
  • Thin or fragile skin, slow wound healing, scars, red/purple spots, acne, stretch marks, bruising.
  • Muscle weakness or wasting, fragile bones (osteoporosis) leading to easier fractures.
RARE
  • Increased appetite.
  • Mood changes (depression, feeling overly happy), psychosis (seeing or hearing things that aren't there), anxiety, sleep problems, confusion, memory loss.
  • Eye problems, such as cataracts, glaucoma (high eye pressure), blurred vision, or swelling of the optic nerve.
  • Seizures.
  • Bone tissue breakdown due to poor blood flow; tendon ruptures (causing pain or swelling).
  • Hiccups.
  • Stomach or intestinal problems, like ulcers, bloating, indigestion, or thrush in the esophagus.
  • Skin changes, including redness, small spots, increased sweating, allergic skin rash, hives, or increased body hair (including facial hair in women).
  • Irregular or absent menstrual periods.
  • Weight gain, nausea, general discomfort, and fatigue.

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to hydrocortisone or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not take if you have an untreated infection (like tuberculosis, bacterial, fungal, or viral infections). High doses can weaken your immune system, making you more prone to infections. Avoid live vaccines.
  • Avoid drinking grapefruit juice during treatment, as it can increase the amount of hydrocortisone in your blood.
  • Do not stop taking this medicine suddenly without your doctor's advice, as it can be dangerous and lead to withdrawal symptoms. Your doctor will gradually reduce your dose.
  • Contact your doctor immediately if you notice serious problems such as a severe allergic reaction (rash, facial swelling, breathing difficulties), irregular heartbeat, severe headaches with vomiting (especially in children), stomach ulcers or bleeding, pancreatitis, blood clots, heart failure symptoms, or any new or worsening mental health issues (like feeling very depressed, anxious, confused, or having strange thoughts). Also contact your doctor if you suspect an increased risk of infection.
