Hydrocortison-ratiopharm is a mild corticosteroid cream used to treat various itchy and red skin rashes like allergic rashes, sunburns, insect bites, and diaper rash, as long as they are not caused by bacteria, fungi, or viruses.

How to Use

Dosage

Apply a thin layer of cream to clean skin 2-3 times a day initially. After a few days, the dosage can be reduced to once a day.

Method

Apply a thin layer of the cream directly to the affected clean skin area.

Important

Maximum of 2-3 times daily for a few days, then once daily. Do not use for more than 4 weeks (adults), 3 weeks (children under 4), or 2 weeks (infant diaper rash).

Possible Side Effects

  • Thickening of the heart muscle (hypertrophic cardiomyopathy) in premature babies
  • Weight gain
  • Rash around the mouth
  • Loss of skin color (pigment)
  • Increased hair growth
  • Skin infection (bacterial, fungal, or other microbe) in the treated area

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to hydrocortisone or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you have skin tuberculosis.
  • Do not use if you have a skin infection caused by fungi, bacteria, or viruses without also taking medication for that infection.
  • Avoid getting the cream in or near your eyes. Do not use on wounds.
  • Do not use Hydrocortison-ratiopharm continuously for long periods or on large skin areas, as it can thin the skin and cause side effects, especially in children. Adults should use it for a maximum of four weeks, children under 4 for a maximum of three weeks, and for infant diaper rash, a maximum of two weeks.
