How to Use

Dosage

As prescribed by your doctor.

Method

The tablet can be divided into two equal doses and can be taken with or without food. Avoid grapefruit juice.

Important

Your doctor will determine the maximum daily dose.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Worsening heart failure
  • High blood pressure
  • Increased risk of infection, masked infection symptoms
  • Insufficient hormone production by pituitary and adrenal glands with long-term use
  • Rounded face (known as moon face)
  • Worsening or onset of diabetes
  • Body salt imbalance
  • Swelling
  • Skin thinning, slowed tissue healing and scarring, acne, stretch marks, easy bruising, bruises
  • Muscle weakness, fragile bones
  • Slowed growth in children
RARE
  • Allergic reactions
  • Increased appetite
  • Mood disturbances, insomnia
  • Cataracts, increased eye pressure, glaucoma
  • Blood clots
  • Convulsions (seizures), increased pressure inside the skull
  • Pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas)
  • Bone tissue death, tendon ruptures
  • Swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat, which can cause difficulty swallowing (angioedema)
  • Abnormal laboratory test results
  • Worsening of existing infection, activation of a hidden infection
  • Impaired glucose tolerance
  • Sleep disturbances, difficulties with thinking, concentration, and mood
  • Dizziness, headache
  • Swelling of the optic disc (papilledema), thinning of the eye surface, bulging eyes, blurred vision
  • Heart muscle rupture after heart attack
  • Thickening of heart muscle (hypertrophic cardiomyopathy) in premature babies
  • Hiccups
  • Digestive problems, stomach and intestinal symptoms such as ulcers
  • Rash, sweating, increased hair growth, skin redness, and dilated superficial blood vessels
  • Muscle disease, bone fractures
  • Irregular or absent menstruation
  • Weight gain, nausea, feeling ill
  • Increased blood clotting tendency, excess blood fats, kidney stones, reduced sperm quality

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to hydrocortisone or any other ingredient in the tablets.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have an untreated bacterial, fungal, viral, or parasitic infection, such as tuberculosis.
  • High doses can temporarily weaken your immune system; do not get live vaccines during this treatment as it could cause an infection.
  • Talk to your doctor before taking this medicine if you have or have had a stomach or duodenal ulcer.
  • Talk to your doctor before taking this medicine if you have diabetes or bone thinning (osteoporosis).

  • Talk to your doctor before taking this medicine if you have had a severe mood disorder or psychosis.
  • Talk to your doctor before taking this medicine if you have heart failure, a recent heart attack, high blood pressure, or epilepsy.
  • Talk to your doctor before taking this medicine if you have glaucoma (increased eye pressure) or an ocular herpes simplex infection.
  • Talk to your doctor before taking this medicine if you have an underactive or overactive thyroid, or kidney or liver problems.
  • Talk to your doctor before taking this medicine if you have had a muscle disease caused by corticosteroids before, or inflammatory bowel disease, diverticulitis, or recent abdominal or bowel surgery.
  • Talk to your doctor if you are taking blood thinners, are scheduled for surgery, or plan to get vaccinated.
  • Corticosteroids increase your risk of infection and can hide infection symptoms. Be extra careful about chickenpox, shingles, or measles infections.
  • Contact your doctor immediately if you experience blurred vision or other vision problems.
  • Contact your doctor immediately if you experience muscle weakness, pain, cramps, or stiffness while taking hydrocortisone, especially if you have an overactive thyroid.
  • Talk to your doctor if you suspect or have been diagnosed with pheochromocytoma (a rare adrenal gland tumor).
  • Corticosteroid treatment can slow down growth in children and increase the risk of side effects.
  • Avoid drinking grapefruit juice during treatment, as it can increase the amount of hydrocortisone in your blood.
  • Do not change your dose or stop your medication on your own; treatment should be stopped gradually under your doctor's supervision.
