How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will tell you the correct dose to take; do not change it without talking to them.

Method

Take the tablets regularly with a glass of water. You can divide the tablet into two equal halves if needed.

Important

Always follow your doctor's instructions for the maximum daily dose; do not exceed it.

  • low blood pressure when standing up
  • vomiting, nausea, stomach pain, diarrhea, constipation
  • rash, hives
  • sensitivity to light
  • low white blood cell or platelet count
  • anemia
  • allergic reaction, red spots on the skin
  • sleep problems, depression, abnormal sensations
  • vision problems
  • blood vessel inflammation, allergic lung inflammation, pulmonary edema (fluid in lungs), pancreatitis (inflamed pancreas), hepatitis (inflamed liver), kidney inflammation, bile flow obstruction
  • toxic epidermal necrolysis (severe skin reaction)
  • kidney failure
  • impotence
  • fever
  • acute shortness of breath (severe breathing difficulties, fever, weakness, confusion)
  • skin and lip cancer (non-melanoma skin cancer)
  • eye pain due to high eye pressure or sudden glaucoma

Important Warnings

  • Do not take Hydrex if you are allergic to hydrochlorothiazide, sulfonamides, or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Tell your doctor if you have severe kidney or liver problems, or very low potassium or high calcium levels in your blood.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have fluid or electrolyte imbalances, heart failure, liver cirrhosis, Addison's disease, gout, diabetes, or SLE (a chronic autoimmune disease).
  • If you experience worsening vision or eye pain, seek immediate medical attention.
  • If you have had breathing problems after taking this medicine before, seek immediate medical attention if they recur.

  • Protect your skin from sunlight and UV rays, as Hydrex can increase the risk of certain skin cancers.
  • Hydrex is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
  • Do not stop taking this medicine on your own, as it can cause difficult symptoms.
  • This medicine may cause dizziness at the start of treatment, which can affect your ability to drive or use machines.
  • Tell your doctor if you have lactose intolerance, as this medicine contains lactose.
  • Tell your doctor or pharmacist about all other medicines you are taking to avoid interactions.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Effectiveness is reduced in renal impairment. Consider risk of orthostatic hypotension and hyponatraemia and -kalemia. (updated 19.5.2025)
