Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Reduced bone marrow function (fewer white blood cells, platelets, and red blood cells).
  • Nausea and vomiting.
  • Hair loss.
  • Brain function problems (e.g., confusion).
  • Bladder inflammation (blood in urine).
  • Fever.
  • Infections.
  • Too much acid in the body.
  • Poor appetite.
  • Vein inflammation.
  • Liver problems.
  • Fewer sperm cells.
  • Fatigue and feeling unwell.
RARE
  • Severe blood poisoning (sepsis).
  • New cancers (as a result of treatment).
  • Mood changes, confusion, hallucinations.
  • Dizziness.
  • Irregular heartbeats and weakened heart.
  • Low blood pressure.
  • Diarrhea and constipation.
  • Mouth inflammation.
  • High liver enzyme levels in blood tests.
  • Frequent urination, incontinence, bladder irritation.
  • Missed periods or problems with egg release.
  • Muscle cramps.
  • Severe allergic reaction (swelling of face, tongue, throat, difficulty swallowing or breathing, hives).
  • Kidney disease (poor kidney function).
  • Body swelling due to fluid buildup.
  • Imbalance of salt levels in the blood.
  • Shortness of breath, cough, lung inflammation.
  • Inability to control bowel movements.
  • Blurred or impaired vision.
  • Redness or pain at the injection site.
  • Severe blood clotting problems.
  • Serious blood disorder (hemolytic uremic syndrome).
  • Seizures (including epilepsy).
  • Heart attack, cardiac arrest.
  • Acute pancreas inflammation.
  • Severe skin reactions with peeling skin.
  • Worsening of existing cancer.
  • Blood side effects (e.g., red blood cell breakdown).
  • Weakened immune system.
  • High blood sugar.
  • Increased thirst.
  • Rapid breakdown of tumor cells.
  • Speech difficulties, twitching, walking problems, nerve damage in hands and feet.
  • Eye inflammation, eye irritation.
  • Ringing in ears, hearing loss or deafness.
  • Fluid around the heart, heart muscle disease, chest pain, heart inflammation, heart failure-like condition.
  • Pain.
  • Blood clots, blood vessel inflammation, high blood pressure.
  • Hot flashes.
  • Severe acute breathing difficulty.
  • Bowel inflammation and bleeding, stomach pain, increased saliva.
  • Blocked bile ducts.
  • Liver blood clot, liver failure, liver inflammation.
  • Severe skin and mucous membrane inflammation.
  • Worsening of skin damage after radiation therapy.
  • Skin and nail changes, small bleeding spots on the skin.
  • Increased sweating.
  • Itching.
  • Muscle and joint pain, hand and foot pain, slow growth.
  • Very large amounts of urine, feeling of incomplete bladder emptying, kidney inflammation.
  • Infertility, early menopause, poor ovarian function.
  • Slowed growth (in children).
  • Multiple organ dysfunction.
  • Chills.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to ifosfamide (e.g., breathing difficulties, facial swelling).
  • Do not use if your bone marrow function is weak.
  • Do not use if your kidneys are not working well, if your urinary tract is blocked, or if you have a bladder infection.
  • Do not use if you have an infection.
  • Do not use if you have cancer metastases in your brain.

  • Do not breastfeed during Holoxan treatment.
  • Contact your doctor immediately if you see blood in your urine.
  • Tell your doctor right away if you feel confused, very tired, or have a severe headache.
  • Discuss vaccinations with your doctor before or during Holoxan treatment.
  • Tell your doctor if you have kidney, liver, bone marrow, or heart disease.
  • Do not get pregnant during treatment, and do not try to have children for 6 months after treatment. Talk to your doctor.
  • Holoxan can damage the bladder and cause bleeding.
  • Holoxan may slow down wound healing. Keep wounds clean.
  • Holoxan can damage your kidneys. Your doctor will monitor your kidney function.
  • Tell your doctor immediately if you have breathing difficulties.
  • Holoxan can harm your heart or cause irregular heartbeats.
  • Alcohol can increase the risk of nausea and vomiting.
  • Do not drive or use machines if Holoxan makes you dizzy or affects your vision.
