How to Use

Dosage

Tablets: Adults and children over 12 years: 1 tablet twice a day. Children 6-12 years: ½ tablet twice a day. Powder: Adults and children over 12 years: 1 sachet twice a day. Not recommended for children under 12.

Method

Tablets can be split or crushed and taken with milk or fruit juice, preferably on an empty stomach. Powder: Dissolve the contents of the sachet in a glass of water.

Important

Adults and children over 12 years: 2 tablets or 2 sachets per day. Children 6-12 years (tablets only): 1 tablet per day.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use Hiprex if you are allergic to methenamine hippurate or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you have gout, severe dehydration, severe liver problems, severe kidney problems, or metabolic acidosis.
  • Do not take Hiprex with medicines containing sulfonamides or alkalizing agents.
  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or planning to become pregnant, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before using this medicine.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Has modest efficacy. Useless in persons with urinary catheters. Avoid use in moderately severe renal impairment. (updated 4.12.2023)
