Hidrasec is a medicine for diarrhea, used to treat sudden diarrhea in children over three months old, helping to prevent dehydration.

How to Use

Dosage

The dose depends on the child's weight, usually 1.5 mg per kg of body weight, three times a day. Your doctor will tell you the exact dose.

Method

Hidrasec granules are to be swallowed. They can be mixed with food or water in a glass or feeding bottle, stirred well, and given to the child right away.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 4.5 mg of racecadotril per kg of the child's body weight. The exact number of sachets depends on the child's weight. Treatment should not exceed 7 days.

Possible Side Effects

RARE
  • Tonsillitis (inflammation of the tonsils)
  • Rash
  • Skin redness
  • Swelling of the face, tongue, or throat; difficulty swallowing; hives and breathing difficulties (angioedema)
  • Widespread rash, fever, and enlarged lymph nodes (DRESS syndrome)
  • Breathing difficulties, swelling, dizziness, rapid heartbeat, sweating, and feeling faint, which are symptoms of a sudden, severe allergic reaction

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if your child is allergic to racecadotril or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Talk to your doctor if your child has any sugar intolerance or diabetes, as the medicine contains saccharose.
  • Stop use and contact a doctor immediately if your child develops a severe rash, peeling skin, blisters, or mouth sores.
  • Do not give to children under three months of age.
  • Talk to your doctor if your child's stools are bloody or contain pus, and if they have a fever.

  • Talk to your doctor if the diarrhea is chronic (long-lasting) or caused by antibiotics.
  • Talk to your doctor if your child has kidney or liver problems.
  • Talk to your doctor if your child has prolonged or uncontrolled vomiting.
  • Stop use immediately and contact a doctor if your child develops swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat.
  • Tell your doctor about all other medicines your child is taking, as some medicines can increase the risk of side effects.
