How to Use

Dosage

A specific amount of Hexvix solution is put into your bladder and kept there for about 60 minutes.

Method

A small tube called a catheter is placed into your bladder. Your bladder is emptied through this tube. Then, Hexvix is put into your bladder through the tube and stays there for about 60 minutes. After that, your bladder is emptied again.

Important

This medicine is given only once for each examination of your bladder.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Nausea, vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Constipation
  • Muscle cramps or pain in or around the stomach
  • Pain or difficulty when urinating
  • Feeling that your bladder does not empty completely
  • Blood in your urine
  • Pain after the procedure
  • Fever
RARE
  • Headache
  • Burning feeling when urinating (due to bladder inflammation or infection)
  • More frequent need to urinate
  • Blood poisoning
  • Trouble sleeping or falling asleep
  • Pain in the urethra
  • Feeling an urgent need to urinate
  • Changes in blood test results (e.g., more white blood cells, bilirubin, or liver enzymes, or less red blood cells)
  • Inflammation of the tip of the penis (balanitis)
  • Back pain
  • Gout
  • Rash
  • Itching
  • Severe allergic reaction (anaphylactic shock), which can cause low blood pressure, fast heart rate, and rash.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to Hexvix or any of its ingredients.
  • Do not use if you have porphyria (a rare blood disease).
  • Tell your doctor if you have a bladder infection or feel a burning pain when you pee.
  • Tell your doctor if you recently had BCG treatment for your bladder.
  • Tell your doctor if you recently had bladder surgery.
