Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Dizziness or feeling faint (due to low blood pressure)
  • Nausea (feeling sick)
  • Slow heartbeat
  • Headache
  • Vomiting
  • Trouble urinating or urinating by accident
RARE
  • Muscle weakness or paralysis
  • Back pain
  • Tingling or numbness in the skin
  • Skin sensitivity or abnormal sensations
  • Allergic reactions (e.g., rash, itching)
  • Heart failure
  • Nerve pain or altered sensations due to nerve inflammation
  • Inflammation of the membranes around the spinal cord (arachnoiditis), which can cause sleepiness, joint pain, fever, or fast breathing.
  • Paralysis of movement or both sides of the body (e.g., lower body or legs)
  • Unintentional blocking of spinal nerves
  • Weakened breathing, blue lips or nails (requires immediate medical attention)
  • Sudden severe allergic reaction (anaphylactic shock) with rash and fainting (requires immediate medical attention)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to bupivacaine or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Tell your doctor if you have a serious brain or spinal cord disease, such as meningitis or a tumor.
  • Tell your doctor if you have a blood infection (sepsis) or problems with your blood clotting.
  • Tell your doctor if you have heart disease or heart failure.
  • Do not take if there is an infection at or near the injection site.
