How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will decide your dose based on your condition and weight.

Method

Hepatect is given as a slow drip into a vein (intravenous infusion) by a doctor or nurse, who may gradually increase the infusion rate.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Chills
  • Headache

RARE
  • Severe allergic reactions, including anaphylactic shock (a very serious, sudden allergic reaction)
  • Fast heartbeat
  • Skin reactions, such as rash, itching, or a lupus-like skin condition
  • Feeling unwell
  • Decrease in red blood cells, sometimes needing a blood transfusion
  • Sudden drop in blood pressure
  • Blood clots, such as heart attack, stroke, lung clots, or deep vein clots
  • Temporary inflammation of the brain and spinal cord lining (aseptic meningitis)
  • Kidney problems, including sudden kidney failure
  • Acute lung injury (TRALI), causing severe breathing problems, fast breathing, low oxygen, and fever

Important Warnings

  • Do not use Hepatect if you are allergic to human immunoglobulin or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Do not use Hepatect if you have IgA deficiency, especially with IgA antibodies in your blood, as it can cause a severe allergic reaction.
  • Tell your doctor if you have had a reaction to other antibodies before, as you might be at risk for allergic reactions.
  • Tell your doctor if you have or have had kidney problems, or if you are taking medicines that can harm your kidneys.
  • You will be carefully monitored during and after the infusion to check for any reactions.

  • Tell your doctor immediately if you get a headache, flushed face/neck, chills, muscle pain, wheezing, fast pulse, back pain, nausea, or low blood pressure during the infusion.
  • Hepatect can make some vaccines less effective, like measles, mumps, rubella, and chickenpox. You may need to wait up to 3 months, or even a year for measles vaccine, before getting certain vaccinations.
  • Do not use loop diuretics (water pills) at the same time as Hepatect.
  • Though steps are taken to make this medicine safe, there's a small chance of infection from human blood or plasma. This includes unknown viruses.
  • It is important to record the name and batch number of Hepatect every time you receive a dose.
  • If you experience side effects during treatment, do not drive or use machines until your symptoms have resolved.
