How to Use

Dosage

You will receive one 0.5 ml dose. A booster dose is given 6-12 months later, and can be given up to 5 years after the first dose to ensure long-term protection.

Method

A doctor or nurse will give the vaccine as an injection into a muscle, usually in the upper arm. For young children, it can be given in the thigh muscle. If you have a bleeding disorder, the vaccine may be given under the skin.

Important

Only one dose per administration.

  • Irritability
  • Pain and redness at the injection site
  • Loss of appetite
  • Headache
  • Drowsiness
  • Nausea
  • General feeling of discomfort
  • Fever of 37.5 °C or more
  • Swelling at the injection site
RARE
  • Blocked or runny nose
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Rash
  • Hardening at the injection site
  • Seizures or convulsions
  • Inflammation of blood vessels (vasculitis)
  • Severe allergic reaction, such as swelling of the face, tongue, or throat, leading to difficulty breathing or swallowing
  • Hives, red and itchy patches that appear on limbs, face, or body
  • Joint pain

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this vaccine if you are allergic to any ingredient in Havrix 720 or to neomycin or formaldehyde, or if you have had an allergic reaction to any hepatitis A vaccine before.
  • Tell your doctor if you have a severe infection with a high fever. You can get the vaccine once you are better. A mild cold is usually fine, but ask your doctor first.
  • Tell your doctor if you have a weakened immune system (due to illness or medicine) or a bleeding disorder, or if you bruise easily.
  • Tell your doctor if you have ever fainted after an injection.
  • This vaccine contains phenylalanine, which can be harmful if you have a rare genetic condition called phenylketonuria (PKU). It also contains polysorbate 20, which may cause allergic reactions if you have allergies. Discuss any known allergies with your doctor.
