Havrix 1440 is a vaccine that helps protect young people aged 16 and over, and adults, from the hepatitis A virus.

How to Use

Dosage

You will receive one 1 ml dose. A booster dose is recommended 6-12 months after the first dose, but can be given up to 5 years later for long-lasting protection.

Method

A doctor or nurse will give Havrix 1440 as an injection into a muscle, usually in your upper arm. In special cases, it can be given under the skin.

Important

Only one dose is given at a time as part of the vaccination schedule.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Headache
  • Pain and redness at the injection site
  • Tiredness
  • Loss of appetite
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • General feeling of being unwell
  • Fever of 37.5°C or higher
  • Swelling or hardness at the injection site
RARE
  • Upper respiratory tract infection (e.g., common cold)
  • Stuffy or runny nose
  • Dizziness
  • Muscle pain and stiffness not caused by exercise
  • Flu-like symptoms such as high fever, sore throat, runny nose, cough, and chills
  • Decreased or lost skin sensation to pain or touch
  • Tingling or numbness in the skin
  • Itching
  • Chills
  • Seizures or convulsions
  • Blood vessel inflammation (vasculitis)
  • Severe allergic reaction with swelling of the face, tongue, or throat, which can cause difficulty swallowing or breathing
  • Hives, red, often itchy patches that first appear on arms and legs, and sometimes on the face or body
  • Joint pain

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to the active substance, any other ingredients in this vaccine, neomycin, or formaldehyde.
  • Do not take if you have previously had an allergic reaction to any hepatitis A vaccine.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have a severe infection with high fever; you can get the vaccine after you recover. A mild cold is usually not a problem, but still tell your doctor.
  • Tell your doctor if you have a weakened immune system due to illness or medication, as you might need extra doses.
  • Tell your doctor if you have a bleeding disorder or bruise easily.

  • Fainting can happen before or after an injection. Tell your doctor if you have fainted from an injection before.
  • This vaccine contains phenylalanine. If you have phenylketonuria (PKU), a rare genetic condition, talk to your doctor.
  • This vaccine contains polysorbate 20, which can cause allergic reactions. If you have allergies, tell your doctor.
