How to Use

Dosage

You will receive one dose (1 ml) of Havrix 1440. A booster shot is recommended 6 to 12 months later, and can be given up to 5 years after the first shot, for long-term protection.

Method

A doctor or nurse will give you the Havrix 1440 shot into a muscle, usually in your upper arm. If you have a bleeding problem, it might be given under the skin.

Important

This is a vaccine, so it's given as a single shot at a time, not daily.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Headache
  • Pain and redness at injection site
  • Feeling tired
  • Loss of appetite
  • Feeling sick (nausea)
  • Being sick (vomiting)
  • Diarrhea
  • General feeling of being unwell
  • Fever of 37.5 °C or higher
  • Swelling or hardening at injection site
RARE
  • Upper respiratory tract infection
  • Stuffy or runny nose
  • Dizziness
  • Muscle pain and stiffness not caused by exercise
  • Flu-like symptoms (e.g., high fever, sore throat, runny nose, cough, chills)
  • Reduced feeling in the skin to pain or touch
  • Tingling or numbness in the skin
  • Itching
  • Chills
  • Seizures or convulsions
  • Inflammation of blood vessels (vasculitis)
  • Severe allergic reaction with swelling of face, tongue, or throat, leading to trouble swallowing or breathing
  • Hives (red, itchy spots on skin)
  • Joint pain

Important Warnings

  • Do not get this vaccine if you are allergic to its active substance, any other ingredients, neomycin, or formaldehyde.
  • Do not get this vaccine if you have had an allergic reaction to any hepatitis A vaccine before.
  • Tell your doctor if you have a bad infection with a high fever. You can get the vaccine once you are better.
  • Tell your doctor if your immune system is weak because of an illness or medicine.
  • Tell your doctor if you have a bleeding problem or if you bruise easily.

  • Tell your doctor or nurse if you have ever fainted when getting a shot.
  • If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning a pregnancy, ask your doctor for advice before getting this vaccine.
  • This vaccine contains phenylalanine. This can be harmful if you have a rare inherited disease called phenylketonuria (PKU).
  • This vaccine contains polysorbate 20, which may cause allergic reactions. Tell your doctor if you have any known allergies.
