How to Use

Dosage

The usual dose for adults is 0.125–0.25 mg before sleep. For elderly or weak patients, the usual dose is 0.125 mg.

Method

Take this medicine just before you go to bed, as directed by your doctor.

Important

Do not take more than 0.5 mg in one day.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to triazolam, other benzodiazepines, or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you have a muscle weakness condition called myasthenia gravis.
  • Do not use if you have sleep apnea (breathing stops during sleep).
  • Do not use if you have severe breathing problems.
  • Do not use if you have severe liver problems.

  • Do not use if you are taking certain antifungal medicines (like ketoconazole or itraconazole), antidepressant medicines (like nefazodone), HIV medicines (like efavirenz or ritonavir), or other medicines that strongly block certain liver enzymes.
  • Do not drink alcohol while using Halcion, as it can make you too drowsy.
  • Avoid drinking grapefruit juice while taking Halcion.
  • Do not use Halcion if you are breastfeeding.
  • Halcion can greatly affect your ability to react. Do not drive or operate machinery until you know how it affects you and are sure you are not drowsy or dizzy during the day.
  • Do not stop taking this medicine suddenly, as it can cause withdrawal symptoms. Always talk to your doctor first.
  • Halcion can cause memory loss for a few hours after you take it. Make sure you can sleep for 7-8 hours after taking it.
  • Using Halcion with opioids (strong pain medicines, certain cough medicines) can cause severe drowsiness, breathing problems, and coma, which can be life-threatening. Only use together if no other options are available and under strict medical supervision.
  • Do not take other sleeping pills or sedatives at the same time as Halcion without first talking to your doctor.
  • Stop taking Halcion and contact your doctor immediately if you experience swelling of the face, tongue, or throat, difficulty swallowing, hives, or breathing problems.
