How to Use

Dosage

The typical dose for adults is 1 to 3 mg. For children, the dose is determined by the doctor based on their weight.

Method

This medicine is given as an injection into a vein by a doctor or nurse.

Important

For nausea caused by cancer treatment, the maximum daily dose is 9 mg. For post-surgery nausea, the maximum daily dose is 3 mg.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Headache
  • Constipation
  • Sleep problems (insomnia)
  • Changes in how your liver works (shown in blood tests)
  • Diarrhea
RARE
  • Skin rashes, allergic skin reactions, or hives (red, itchy bumps)
  • Changes in heart rhythm or electrical activity (shown on an ECG)
  • Abnormal, uncontrolled movements like shaking, muscle stiffness, or muscle spasms
  • Serotonin syndrome (symptoms include diarrhea, fast heart rate, sweating, confusion, and muscle stiffness)

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to granisetron or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Tell your doctor if you have bowel problems with blockages.
  • Tell your doctor if you have heart problems, are taking medicines that can harm the heart, or have problems with your body's salt levels (like potassium or sodium).
  • Tell your doctor if you are taking other similar medicines for nausea and vomiting (like dolasetron or ondansetron).
  • There is a rare but possibly life-threatening risk of 'serotonin syndrome,' which can cause symptoms like diarrhea, fast heartbeat, confusion, and muscle stiffness.
