How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will determine your dose based on age, weight, and the condition being treated, typically 1-3 mg for adults.

Method

The medicine is given as an injection directly into a vein.

Important

The maximum daily dose for adults is 9 mg.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Headache
  • Constipation
  • Diarrhea
  • Trouble sleeping (insomnia)
  • Changes in liver function (seen in blood tests)
RARE
  • Severe allergic reactions (such as rash, hives, swelling of the face or throat, and difficulty breathing)
  • Changes in heart rhythm or ECG (heart's electrical activity)
  • Unusual, uncontrolled movements (such as shaking, stiffness, and muscle spasms)
  • Serotonin syndrome (symptoms include diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, fever, high blood pressure, sweating, fast heart rate, agitation, confusion, hallucinations, shivering, muscle tremors, twitching, stiffness, loss of coordination, and restlessness)

Important Warnings

  • Do not use Granisetron if you are allergic to it or any of its ingredients.
  • Tell your doctor if you have bowel problems or a blockage in your gut.
  • Tell your doctor if you have heart problems, a slow heartbeat, high blood pressure, or problems with your blood salt levels (like potassium, sodium, calcium).
  • Tell your doctor if you are taking other similar anti-sickness medicines (like dolasetron or ondansetron).
  • Tell your doctor if you are taking antidepressants, such as SSRI or SNRI medicines, as this can increase the risk of a rare but serious condition called serotonin syndrome.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C
