How to Use

Dosage

The usual starting dose is 2 mg, followed by 1 to 2 mg every 4 hours.

Method

This medicine is given as an injection directly into your vein after mixing the powder with the liquid.

Important

Do not take more than 12 mg in a 24-hour period.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Abdominal pain
  • Low sodium level in blood
  • Headache
  • Chest pain
  • Slow heartbeat (bradycardia)
  • Fast heartbeat
  • High blood pressure
  • Narrowing of blood vessels
  • Bluish skin (cyanosis) due to lack of oxygen
  • Fluid build-up in the lungs
  • Shortness of breath
  • Insufficient blood flow to limbs
  • Paleness
  • Diarrhea
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
RARE
  • Irregular heartbeat
  • Heart attack
  • A specific type of irregular heartbeat (Torsade de Pointes)
  • Heart failure with symptoms like shortness of breath, tiredness, and swollen ankles
  • Insufficient blood flow to the intestines
  • Hot flashes
  • Difficulty breathing and respiratory failure
  • Skin tissue death (necrosis)
  • Tissue death (necrosis) at the injection site
  • Uterine contractions
  • Reduced blood flow through the uterus

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to terlipressin acetate or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you are pregnant.
  • Tell your doctor if you have high blood pressure, heart problems, or diabetes.
  • Tell your doctor if you have septic shock, which is a serious condition with very low blood pressure.
  • This medicine should be used with caution in children and elderly patients due to limited experience.
