How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor or nurse will give you the correct dose. For adults and elderly, it's typically 1.25–5 mg of neostigmine methylsulfate and 0.25–1 mg of glycopyrrolate. For children, the dose is based on body weight.

Method

The medicine is given directly into a vein, usually over 10–30 seconds.

Important

The maximum total dose of Glycostigmin injection solution is 2 ml.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Increased secretions in mouth, throat, and airways.
  • Irregular heartbeats, especially a slow heartbeat.
  • Faster digestion, such as stomach cramps.
  • Airway spasms (like asthma symptoms).
  • Dry mouth and throat.
  • Blurred vision.
  • Difficulty focusing eyes.
  • Difficulty urinating.
  • Various heart rhythm problems, such as a fast heartbeat and palpitations.
  • Reduced sweating.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use this medicine if you are allergic to neostigmine, glycopyrronium bromide, or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you have a blockage in your stomach, intestines, or urinary tract.
  • This medicine should not be used if your muscle relaxation was caused by a medicine called suxamethonium.
  • Use with caution if you have heart disease, such as coronary artery disease, heart failure, or irregular heartbeats.
  • Tell your doctor if you have high blood pressure, thyroid overactivity, epilepsy, Parkinson's disease, high fever, asthma, tendency to airway spasms, or a very slow heartbeat.

  • Be cautious if you have narrow-angle glaucoma, an enlarged prostate, or other conditions causing difficulty urinating.
  • This medicine should only be given when the muscle-relaxing effect is already starting to wear off. Giving it too early can lead to muscles relaxing again.
  • Tell your doctor or pharmacist about all other medicines you are taking, have recently taken, or might take, as some can affect how Glycostigmin works.
