Method

This medicine is usually given slowly into a vein, often in your arm, through a plastic tube with a needle. Your doctor may choose a different way if needed.

Important

The maximum daily dose will be determined by your doctor, considering your age, weight, and condition, to prevent side effects like too much urine production or other complications.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if the solution looks cloudy or contains particles, or if the package is damaged.
  • Tell your doctor if you have diabetes or high blood sugar that is not well controlled.
  • Inform your doctor if you have kidney problems or low levels of salts (like sodium, potassium, phosphorus, magnesium) in your blood.
  • You should not receive this if you have had a head injury in the last 24 hours, or a recent stroke, as high blood sugar can worsen these conditions.

Show 5 more warnings
  • Do not use this medicine if you are allergic to glucose or corn.
  • Inform your doctor if you have a condition that causes high levels of a hormone called vasopressin (e.g., severe illness, pain, surgery, infection, burns, brain problems, heart, liver, or kidney disease), as this can lead to dangerously low sodium in your blood, causing headache, nausea, seizures, coma, brain swelling, and potentially death. Children, women of childbearing age, and people with brain issues (like meningitis or brain injury) are at higher risk.
  • This infusion should not be given through the same needle as a blood transfusion, as it can harm red blood cells or cause them to clump.
  • Use with special care in children.
  • Do not use with certain hormones (like adrenaline or steroids) that can raise your blood sugar.
