How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will determine your dose based on your condition.

Method

This medicine is given as an infusion directly into a vein through a small tube.

Important

For adults and young people 14 years and older, the maximum dose is 20 ml/kg per day, with an infusion rate not exceeding 0.83 ml/kg per hour. For children, the maximum daily dose depends on age and weight.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Local pain at the infusion site
  • Irritation at the infusion site
  • Inflammation of the vein (phlebitis)

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if your blood sugar is too high and requires a lot of insulin to control.
  • Do not use if you have severe circulation problems, such as shock.
  • Do not use if you have too much fluid in your body or fluid in your lungs.
  • Do not use if you have acute heart failure or very low potassium in your blood that cannot be fixed.
  • This medicine is usually not given if you have had a stroke recently, unless your doctor says it is very important for your recovery.

  • Your blood sugar, fluid, electrolytes (especially potassium), and acid-base balance will be monitored closely during treatment.
  • If you notice pain, swelling, or redness at the infusion site, tell your doctor or nurse. They may need to change the infusion site.
  • Do not mix this medicine with blood or give it through the same tube immediately before or after blood transfusion.
  • For children, especially those under two years old, stopping a fast infusion suddenly can cause very low blood sugar.
