How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will determine your correct dose based on your condition. For adults and young people over 14, the maximum dose is 30 ml per kg body weight per day.

Method

This medicine is given as a drip directly into a vein (intravenous infusion).

  • local pain at the injection site
  • irritation at the injection site
  • vein inflammation (thrombophlebitis)

Important Warnings

  • You should not receive this medicine if you have very high blood sugar.
  • Do not use this medicine if you have severe dehydration, shock, too much acid in your blood, or too much fluid in your body (e.g., in the lungs or heart).
  • You should not receive this medicine if you have very low potassium levels in your blood that have not been corrected.
  • Tell your doctor if you have diabetes or other problems with how your body handles carbohydrates, or if your blood is too acidic.
  • Tell your doctor if you have kidney or heart problems.

  • Generally, this medicine is not given if you have recently had a stroke, unless your doctor deems it essential for your recovery.
  • Stopping the glucose infusion suddenly, especially in children or diabetics, can cause dangerously low blood sugar. Your doctor will reduce the dose slowly.
  • If you feel pain or irritation at the infusion site, tell your nurse. If the medicine leaks outside the vein, it can damage tissues.
