How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will decide your exact dose based on your age, weight, and condition. For adults and young people aged 15 and over, the maximum daily dose is 40 ml per kg of body weight, given slowly.

Method

This medicine is given as a drip into a vein (intravenous infusion) by a healthcare professional.

Important

For adults and young people 15 years and older, the maximum daily dose is 40 ml per kg of body weight. For children under 15, the maximum daily dose is decided by the doctor based on age and weight.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Pain at the injection site
  • Irritation at the injection site
  • Inflammation of the vein (thrombophlebitis)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you have very high blood sugar.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have severe dehydration and confusion.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have severe blood circulation problems, like shock.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have too much acid in your blood (acidosis).
  • Do not take this medicine if you have too much fluid in your body or fluid in your lungs.

  • Tell your doctor if you have diabetes or any other problem processing carbohydrates.
  • Tell your doctor if you have kidney or heart problems.

  • If given to children under 2 years old, stopping the infusion suddenly can cause very low blood sugar.
  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, talk to your doctor before using this medicine.
