Glucagen

GlucaGen is an emergency medicine used for children and adults with diabetes who use insulin and become unconscious due to very low blood sugar, also known as severe hypoglycemia, when they cannot take sugar by mouth.

How to Use

Dosage

For adults, inject the entire amount of the solution (1 ml). For children under 8 years old or children over 8 years old weighing less than 25 kg, inject half the amount of the solution (0.5 ml). For children over 8 years old weighing more than 25 kg, inject the entire amount of the solution (1 ml).

Method

First, mix the GlucaGen powder with the solvent in the syringe. Then, inject the dose under the skin or into a muscle. Turn the unconscious person onto their side to prevent choking.

Important

This medication is intended for single emergency use. Taking too much GlucaGen may cause severe nausea or vomiting, but usually no specific treatment is needed.

  • After using GlucaGen, you or someone else must contact your doctor or healthcare provider to find out why your blood sugar was very low and how to prevent it from happening again.
  • Do not use GlucaGen if you are allergic to glucagon or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not use GlucaGen if you have a tumor in your adrenal gland.
  • GlucaGen may not work well if you have been fasting for a long time, have low adrenaline levels, have low blood sugar due to drinking too much alcohol, or have a tumor that releases glucagon or insulin.
