Glatimyl is a medicine used to treat relapsing forms of multiple sclerosis (MS) by affecting the immune system and reducing the number of MS attacks.

How to Use

Dosage

One pre-filled syringe (40 mg glatiramer acetate).

Method

Inject under the skin three times a week, with at least 48 hours between doses (e.g., Monday, Wednesday, and Friday). It is recommended to take the medicine on the same days each week.

Important

Do not take more than one dose on any given day. Ensure at least 48 hours between doses.

  • Anal and rectal problems, constipation, tooth decay, indigestion, difficulty swallowing, loss of bowel control, vomiting
  • Abnormal liver test results
  • Bruises, heavy sweating, itching, skin issues, hives

  • Urgent need to urinate, frequent urination, difficulty urinating
  • Chills, facial swelling, reduced skin tissue at injection site, local injection site reactions, fluid retention swelling in limbs, fever
RARE
  • Abscess, skin and tissue inflammation under the skin, boil, shingles, kidney inflammation
  • Skin cancer
  • Changes in white blood cell count (increased or decreased), enlarged spleen, decreased platelets, abnormal white blood cells
  • Enlarged thyroid gland or overactive thyroid
  • Low alcohol tolerance, gout, high blood fats and sodium, low serum ferritin
  • Strange dreams, confusion, euphoria, hallucinations, aggression, elevated mood, personality disorder, suicide attempt
  • Numbness and pain in hands (carpal tunnel syndrome), mental health problems, seizures, writing and reading difficulties, muscle disorders, movement disorders, muscle cramps, nerve inflammation, nerve-muscle connection problems, rapid eye movements, paralysis, decreased consciousness, blind spots in visual field
  • Cataract, corneal damage, dry eyes, eye bleeding, drooping eyelid, dilated pupils, optic nerve damage and vision problems
  • Extra heartbeats, slow or intermittently fast heart rate
  • Varicose veins
  • Intermittent breathing stops, nosebleed, fast or deep breathing, feeling of throat tightness, lung problems, choking sensation
  • Colon inflammation, colon polyps, intestinal inflammation, belching, esophageal ulcers, gum inflammation, rectal bleeding, enlarged salivary glands
  • Gallstones, enlarged liver
  • Skin and soft tissue swelling, contact dermatitis, painful red skin lumps, skin lumps
  • Joint swelling, inflammation and pain (arthritis or osteoarthritis), bursitis, flank pain, muscle wasting
  • Blood in urine, kidney stones, urinary tract problems, abnormal urine tests
  • Breast swelling, erection problems, pelvic organ prolapse, prolonged erection, prostate issues, abnormal PAP test, testicular problems, vaginal bleeding, vaginal problems
  • Cyst, hangover symptoms, low body temperature (hypothermia), general inflammation, tissue damage at injection site, mucosal problems
  • Symptoms that can occur after vaccination

Important Warnings

  • Do not use Glatimyl if you are allergic to glatiramer acetate or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Tell your doctor if you have kidney, heart, or liver problems.
  • Glatimyl can cause severe allergic reactions. If you experience rash, swelling, breathing difficulties, seizures, trouble swallowing, or dizziness, stop using the medicine and seek immediate medical help.
  • If flushing of the chest or face, shortness of breath, chest pain, or rapid heartbeat continues for more than 30 minutes after injection, seek immediate medical help.
  • If you have nausea, loss of appetite, dark urine, pale stools, yellow skin or eyes, or increased bleeding tendency, contact your doctor immediately. These could be signs of liver problems.
