How to Use

Dosage

One pre-filled syringe (20 mg glatiramer acetate) for adults and teenagers 12 years and older.

Method

Inject the medicine under the skin. Your doctor or nurse will show you how.

Important

Do not use more than one syringe per day. Each syringe is for one use only.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Infections or flu-like symptoms.
  • Feeling anxious or sad.
  • Headache.
  • Feeling sick (nausea).
  • Rash on the skin.
  • Pain in joints or back.
  • Feeling weak, pain, redness, swelling, itching, or lumps at the injection site.
RARE
  • Severe rash, swelling of face, lips, or tongue, difficulty breathing, seizures, or fainting. Get help right away.
  • Flushing of the chest or face, shortness of breath, chest pain, or a fast heartbeat that lasts more than 30 minutes.
  • Nausea, no appetite, dark urine, pale stools, yellow skin or eyes, or bleeding easily. These could be signs of liver problems.
  • Abscesses, deep skin infections, shingles, or a kidney infection.
  • Changes in white blood cells or platelets, or an enlarged spleen.
  • Overactive or enlarged thyroid gland.
  • Confusion, hallucinations, aggression, numbness in hands, seizures, or vision problems.
  • Cataracts, dry eyes, eye bleeding, drooping eyelid, or optic nerve damage.
  • Extra heartbeats, or a slow or fast heart rate.
  • Pauses in breathing, nosebleeds, rapid breathing, feeling of tightness in the throat, or other lung problems.
  • Intestinal inflammation, esophageal ulcers, gum inflammation, rectal bleeding, gallstones, or an enlarged liver.
  • Swelling in skin and soft tissues, contact rash, or painful red skin bumps.
  • Joint swelling, inflammation and pain, flank pain, or decreased muscle mass.
  • Blood in urine, kidney stones, urinary tract problems, breast swelling, erectile dysfunction, pelvic organ prolapse, prostate problems, or vaginal bleeding.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use this medicine if you are allergic to glatiramer acetate or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Glatimyl can cause severe allergic reactions, some of which can be life-threatening. If you experience symptoms like a severe rash, swelling of the face, lips, or tongue, difficulty breathing, seizures, or fainting, stop using the medicine and get immediate medical help.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have kidney, heart, or liver problems, as you may need regular check-ups.
  • Glatimyl should not be used in children under 12 years of age.
  • Do not use the solution if it contains particles or is discolored. Use a new syringe.
