How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will tell you how much to take. Doses vary depending on your condition, usually 200-600 mg daily, taken by mouth or vaginally.

Method

Take the capsules by mouth with water on an empty stomach, preferably in the evening, or insert them deeply into the vagina with a finger, as directed by your doctor.

Important

The maximum daily dose is typically 300 mg when taken by mouth or 600 mg when inserted vaginally, as prescribed by your doctor.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Headache
  • Changes in menstrual bleeding or bleeding at unexpected times.
  • Vaginal itching
  • Oily vaginal discharge
  • Vaginal bleeding
  • Vaginal burning sensation
RARE
  • Breast changes, such as tenderness.
  • Tiredness or dizziness.
  • Vomiting, diarrhea, constipation.
  • Yellowing of skin or eyes (jaundice).
  • Itchy skin, acne.
  • Allergic reactions.
  • Nausea.
  • Depression.
  • Skin rash (possibly itchy).
  • Dark skin patches (melasma).
  • Serious blood clots in legs or lungs.
  • Heart attack or stroke.
  • Gallbladder problems.
  • Excessive growth of the womb lining (when used with estrogen).
  • Possible dementia (when used with estrogen).
  • Vision problems.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to progesterone or any other ingredients, including peanuts or soy.
  • Do not use if you have unexplained vaginal bleeding.
  • Do not use if you have severe liver problems, a liver tumor, or yellow skin or eyes.
  • Do not use if you have or might have a tumor in your breasts or genitals.
  • Do not use if you have had or have blood clots (e.g., in your legs or lungs) or a stroke.

  • Do not use if you have a rare inherited blood disease called porphyria.
  • Do not use if you are pregnant and the baby has died inside you or if your water has broken.
  • Stop taking this medicine and contact a doctor right away if you experience vision changes, a blood clot, or a sudden, severe headache.
  • Do not breastfeed while using this medicine.
  • This medicine is not a birth control method.
