How to Use

Dosage

The usual starting dose is 8 mg once a day.

Method

Swallow the prolonged-release capsules whole with water or other liquid, do not chew or crush them, and try to take the dose with food in the mornings.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 24 mg once a day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Feeling sick (nausea) and being sick (vomiting)
  • Less appetite and losing weight
  • Seeing, hearing, or feeling things that are not real (hallucinations)
  • Feeling sad or depressed
  • Dizziness or fainting
  • Muscle trembling or cramps
  • Headache
  • Feeling very tired, weak, or generally unwell
  • Severe drowsiness and weakness
  • High blood pressure
  • Stomach pain or discomfort in the belly
  • Diarrhea
  • Indigestion
  • Falls
  • Wounds
RARE
  • Allergic reaction
  • Not enough water in the body (dehydration)
  • Tingling or numbness in the skin
  • Changes in how things taste
  • Feeling sleepy during the day
  • Blurry eyesight
  • Constant ringing in the ears (tinnitus)
  • Low blood pressure
  • Redness or flushing of the face
  • Dry heaving or retching
  • Sweating a lot
  • Weak muscles
  • Higher liver enzyme levels in the blood
  • Liver inflammation (hepatitis)

Important Warnings

  • Do not use Galantamin Stada if you are allergic to galantamine or have severe liver or kidney disease.
  • Stop taking Galantamin Stada and seek immediate medical help if you experience severe skin reactions, heart rhythm problems, or seizures.
  • Do not breastfeed while using Galantamin Stada.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Increases the risk of cardiac conduction disorders, such as bradycardia. May exacerbate existing COPD. Consider adverse effects affecting the gastrointestinal tract. Consider potential interactions. Avoid concomitant use of anticholinergic medicines. (updated 18.3.2024)
