How to Use

Dosage

The usual starting dose is 8 mg once a day. Your doctor may gradually increase the dose.

Method

Swallow the capsules whole with water or other liquid, preferably in the morning with food. Do not chew or crush the capsules. If you have difficulty swallowing, you can empty the capsule contents and swallow them with liquid, but do not chew or crush the contents. Remember to drink plenty of fluids during treatment.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 24 mg. Do not take more than one capsule per day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Nausea and vomiting.
  • Weight loss.
  • Reduced appetite.
  • Hallucinations (seeing, hearing, feeling things that aren't there).
  • Depression.
  • Dizziness or fainting.
  • Muscle tremors or spasms.
  • Headache.
  • Extreme tiredness, weakness or general unwellness.
  • Extreme drowsiness and lack of energy.
  • High blood pressure.
  • Stomach pain or discomfort.
  • Diarrhea.
  • Indigestion.
  • Falls.
  • Wounds.
RARE
  • Allergic reaction.
  • Dehydration.
  • Tingling or numbness of the skin.
  • Changes in taste.
  • Daytime drowsiness.
  • Difficulty controlling body or limb movements.
  • Blurred vision.
  • Persistent ringing in the ears (tinnitus).
  • Low blood pressure.
  • Flushing.
  • Retching.
  • Severe sweating.
  • Muscle weakness.
  • Increased liver enzymes.
  • Liver inflammation (hepatitis).

Important Warnings

  • Do not use this medicine if you are allergic to galantamine or any other ingredient in the medicine, or if you have severe liver or kidney disease.
  • Galantamin Krka can cause serious skin reactions, heart problems, or seizures; seek immediate medical attention if you notice any of these.
  • Tell your doctor if you have or have had liver or kidney disease, heart problems (like slow heartbeat, heart attack), stomach ulcers, bowel blockage, epilepsy, breathing issues, or difficulty urinating.
  • Also, tell your doctor if you have recently had surgery on your stomach, intestines, or bladder.
  • This medicine may cause weight loss; your doctor will regularly check your weight.

  • If you feel dizzy or drowsy, do not drive or operate machinery.
  • If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning a pregnancy, discuss this with your doctor; women taking this medicine should not breastfeed.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Increases the risk of cardiac conduction disorders, such as bradycardia. May exacerbate existing COPD.
