How to Use

Dosage

The usual starting dose is 8 mg once a day. Your doctor may gradually increase the dose over time.

Method

Take the capsule whole with water, preferably with food, once a day in the morning. Do not chew or crush it. If swallowing is difficult, you can open the capsule and swallow the contents with liquid, but do not chew or crush the contents. Drink plenty of fluids.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 24 mg once a day.

Possible Side Effects

  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Weight loss, decreased appetite
  • Hallucinations (seeing, hearing, or feeling things that are not there)
  • Depression
  • Dizziness or fainting
  • Muscle tremors or spasms
  • Headache
  • Severe fatigue, weakness, or general feeling of being unwell
  • Severe drowsiness and lack of energy
  • High blood pressure
  • Stomach pain or discomfort
  • Diarrhea
  • Indigestion
  • Falls
  • Wounds
RARE
  • Allergic reaction
  • Dehydration (lack of water in the body)
  • Tingling or numbness of the skin
  • Changes in taste
  • Daytime sleepiness
  • Difficulty controlling body movements
  • Blurred vision
  • Persistent ringing in the ears (tinnitus)
  • Low blood pressure
  • Flushing
  • Retching
  • Excessive sweating
  • Muscle weakness
  • Increased liver enzyme levels in blood
  • Liver inflammation (hepatitis)

Important Warnings

  • Do not use this medicine if you are allergic to galantamine or any other ingredients in it.
  • Do not use this medicine if you have severe liver or kidney disease.
  • Stop using this medicine and contact your doctor immediately or go to the nearest emergency room if you get severe skin reactions (like blisters or peeling skin), heart rhythm problems (like slow, extra, or fast/irregular heartbeats), or seizures.
  • This medicine is not recommended for children and adolescents.
  • Do not breastfeed while using Galantamin Krka.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Increases the risk of cardiac conduction disorders, such as bradycardia. May exacerbate existing COPD.
