How to Use

Dosage

Usually, you will get a single injection of 0.1 ml of Gadovist per kilogram of your body weight (e.g., 7 ml for a 70 kg person). For children, the dose is also 0.1 ml per kg body weight.

Method

A healthcare professional will inject Gadovist into a vein using a small needle. Your MRI scan can start right away, and you will be monitored for at least 30 minutes after the injection.

Important

The maximum total dose is 0.3 ml per kilogram of body weight for certain types of scans. You should not receive a second injection for at least 7 days.

  • Headache
  • Nausea
  • Dizziness
RARE
  • Allergic reactions like low blood pressure, hives, facial or eyelid swelling, redness, increased sweating, cough, sneezing, burning sensation, paleness.
  • Severe allergic reactions including anaphylactic shock, dangerous drop in blood pressure leading to collapse, respiratory arrest, difficulty breathing (bronchospasm), bluish lips, swelling of the mouth, throat, face, lips, and/or tongue (angioedema).
  • Heart problems like rapid heartbeat, palpitations, or even cardiac arrest.
  • Lung problems like severe lung disease (acute respiratory distress syndrome) or fluid in the lungs (pulmonary edema).
  • Neurological symptoms like fainting, seizures, taste or smell disturbance, numbness, tingling.
  • Stomach problems like vomiting, dry mouth, general feeling of discomfort.
  • Skin reactions like skin redness, itching, various rashes (macular, papular, itchy), or injection site reactions (e.g., burning, cold or warm feeling, redness, pain, bruise).
  • Nephrogenic Systemic Fibrosis (NSF), which causes skin thickening and can affect internal organs.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use Gadovist if you are allergic to gadobutrol or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Tell your doctor if you have or have had allergies (like hay fever or hives), asthma, or have reacted badly to contrast dyes before.
  • Tell your doctor if your kidneys do not work well or if you have recently had a liver transplant or are expecting one soon.
  • Tell your doctor if you have a brain condition that causes seizures or other nervous system diseases, or if you have a heart pacemaker or any iron-containing implants in your body.
  • After getting Gadovist, you will be watched for at least 30 minutes because allergic reactions can happen. Some reactions might be delayed, appearing hours or even days later.

  • If you are pregnant or think you might be, or if you are breastfeeding, tell your doctor. Gadovist should only be used during pregnancy if absolutely necessary, and your doctor will decide if you should stop breastfeeding for 24 hours after receiving it.
  • For babies under 4 weeks old and infants under 1 year old, Gadovist should only be used after careful consideration by a doctor due to their undeveloped kidney function. Only one dose should be given during a scan, and no new injection should be given for at least 7 days.
