How to Use

Dosage

The dose usually starts at 300–900 mg daily and can be increased up to 3600 mg daily.

Method

Take this medicine by mouth, swallow the tablets whole with plenty of water, in three separate doses: morning, afternoon, and evening.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 3600 mg.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Viral infection
  • Drowsiness, dizziness
  • Lack of coordination
  • Fatigue, fever
  • Respiratory infections, urinary tract infections, ear infections, or other infections
  • Low white blood cell count
  • Loss of appetite, increased appetite
  • Hostility, confusion, mood swings, depression, anxiety, nervousness, difficulty thinking
  • Convulsions, twitching movements, speech problems, tremor, coordination difficulties, unusual eye movements
  • Memory loss
  • Headache, sensitive skin, decreased sensation (numbness), increased, decreased or absent reflexes
  • Blurred vision, double vision
  • Vertigo (a spinning sensation)
  • High blood pressure, facial flushing and redness, or widening of blood vessels
  • Breathing difficulties, bronchitis, sore throat, cough, dry nasal mucous membranes
  • Vomiting, nausea, dental problems, gum inflammation, diarrhea, stomach pain, indigestion, constipation, dry mouth or throat, flatulence
  • Facial swelling, bruising, rash, itching, acne
  • Joint pain, muscle pain, back pain, muscle twitching
  • Erectile dysfunction (impotence)
  • Swelling of legs and arms, difficulty walking, weakness, pain, feeling unwell, flu-like symptoms
  • Weight gain
  • Accidental injury, fracture, abrasion
  • Aggressive behavior
RARE
  • Agitation (chronic restlessness and involuntary movements)
  • Allergic reaction, such as hives
  • Increased or decreased blood sugar level (especially in diabetics)
  • Decreased movement
  • Palpitations (fast or irregular heartbeat)
  • Swelling (face, upper body, and limbs)
  • Impaired mental performance
  • Falls
  • Abnormal blood test results indicating liver problems
  • Difficulty swallowing
  • Loss of consciousness
  • Breathing difficulties, shallow breathing
  • Decreased number of platelets (blood cells important for clotting)
  • Low blood sodium level
  • Hallucinations
  • Problems with abnormal movements, such as writhing, twitching, and stiffness
  • Ringing in the ears
  • Yellowing of skin and whites of eyes (jaundice), liver inflammation
  • Breakdown of muscle tissue (rhabdomyolysis)
  • Acute kidney failure
  • Inability to hold urine (incontinence)
  • Increased breast tissue, breast enlargement
  • Sexual dysfunction (including inability to achieve orgasm, delayed ejaculation)
  • Withdrawal symptoms (anxiety, sleeplessness, nausea, pain, sweating), chest pain
  • Changes in blood test results (increased blood creatinine phosphokinase value)
  • Anaphylaxis (severe allergic reaction with breathing difficulties, swelling of lips, throat, and tongue, and low blood pressure)
  • Development of dependence on Gabrion (drug dependence)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take Gabrion if you are allergic to gabapentin or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Tell your doctor if you have kidney problems or are on hemodialysis, as your dose may need to be adjusted.
  • Tell your doctor if you develop muscle pain and/or weakness.
  • If you develop severe stomach pain, nausea, and vomiting, contact your doctor immediately as these could be signs of pancreatitis.
  • Inform your doctor if you have nervous system disorders, respiratory problems, or are over 65 years old, as your dose might be adjusted.

  • Tell your doctor if you have ever misused alcohol or drugs or been dependent, as you may have a higher risk of becoming dependent on Gabrion.
  • If you have thoughts of harming yourself or suicide, contact your doctor immediately.
  • Stop taking Gabrion and seek immediate medical attention if you experience severe skin reactions such as red patches, skin peeling, sores in the mouth, high fever, and swollen lymph nodes.
  • Contact your doctor immediately if you experience muscle weakness, tenderness, or pain, especially with high fever, as these can be signs of life-threatening muscle tissue breakdown.
  • If you are pregnant, think you may be pregnant, or are planning a pregnancy, discuss the risks of this medicine to the unborn baby with your doctor. Do not stop medication without talking to your doctor.
  • Breastfeeding is not recommended during Gabrion treatment because the medicine passes into breast milk and its effect on the baby is unknown.
  • Do not stop taking Gabrion suddenly; talk to your doctor so the dose can be gradually reduced over at least one week. Stopping suddenly can cause withdrawal symptoms like seizures or anxiety.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Sedative. Reduce the dose already in mild renal impairment. Note especially central nervous system adverse effects. Take the several interactions in the absorption phase into account. (updated 14.4.2025)
