How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will tell you how many capsules to take. The usual starting dose is 300-900 mg per day. Your doctor may slowly increase your dose up to a maximum of 3600 mg per day.

Method

Take the capsules three times a day: once in the morning, once in the afternoon, and once in the evening. Swallow the capsules whole with plenty of water.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 3600 mg.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Viral infection
  • Feeling drowsy, dizzy, or having trouble with coordination
  • Tiredness, fever
  • Aggressive behavior, jerky movements (seen in children)
  • Pneumonia, infections of the respiratory tract, urinary tract, or ears
  • Low number of white blood cells
  • Loss of appetite or increased appetite
  • Aggression, confusion, mood swings, depression, anxiety, nervousness, difficulty thinking clearly
  • Seizures, twitching, speech difficulties, memory loss, tremor, sleeplessness, headache, skin sensitivity, numbness, coordination problems, unusual eye movements, altered reflexes
  • Blurred or double vision
  • Vertigo (feeling of spinning)
  • Vomiting, nausea, tooth problems, gum inflammation, diarrhea, stomach pain, indigestion, constipation, dry mouth or throat, gas
  • Swelling of the face, bruising, rash, itching, acne
  • Joint pain, muscle pain, back pain, muscle twitching
  • Erectile dysfunction (impotence)
  • Swelling in arms or legs, difficulty walking, weakness, pain, general feeling of illness, flu-like symptoms
  • Weight gain
RARE
  • Agitation (feeling very restless and having uncontrolled movements)
  • Allergic reaction, such as hives
  • Heart palpitations
  • High or low blood sugar (more common in people with diabetes)
  • Loss of consciousness
  • Shallow breathing
  • Thoughts of self-harm or suicide, hallucinations
  • Yellow skin or eyes (jaundice), liver inflammation
  • Sudden kidney failure, inability to control urination
  • Increased breast tissue, breast enlargement
  • Sexual problems, including inability to have an orgasm or delayed ejaculation
  • Low sodium in the blood
  • Severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis) with breathing difficulties, swelling of lips, throat, tongue, and low blood pressure
  • Developing dependence on Gabrion (drug dependence)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take Gabrion if you are allergic to gabapentin or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Tell your doctor if you have kidney problems or are on dialysis, as your dose may need to be adjusted.
  • Get urgent medical help if you get severe stomach pain, feel sick, or vomit. These could be signs of a serious problem called pancreatitis.
  • If you have trouble breathing, especially if it's severe, seek immediate medical care. This is more common if you are older or have nerve or breathing issues.
  • Tell your doctor if you have ever misused alcohol, prescription medicines, or drugs. You might be more likely to become dependent on Gabrion.

  • Some people taking Gabrion have had thoughts of harming themselves or suicide. If you have these thoughts, contact your doctor right away.
  • Stop taking Gabrion and get urgent medical help if you notice red spots, peeling skin, blisters in your mouth, or a widespread rash with fever and swollen lymph nodes. These can be signs of severe skin reactions like SJS, TEN, or DRESS.
  • If you have muscle weakness, tenderness, or pain, especially with fever or feeling unwell, contact your doctor right away. This could be a sign of a serious muscle problem that can harm your kidneys.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Sedative. Reduce the dose already in mild renal impairment. Note especially central nervous system adverse effects. Take the several interactions in the absorption phase into account. (updated 14.4.2025)
