How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will usually start you on 300–900 mg per day. The dose can be increased up to 3,600 mg per day as directed by your doctor.

Method

Take the capsules by mouth with plenty of water.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 3,600 mg, taken in three divided doses: morning, afternoon, and evening.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Viral infection
  • Drowsiness, dizziness, clumsiness
  • Tiredness, fever
  • Infections (e.g., lung, ear, or urinary tract infections)
  • Few white blood cells
  • Changes in appetite (increased or decreased)
  • Mood or thinking problems (e.g., aggression, confusion, depression, anxiety)
  • Nerve problems (e.g., seizures, tremors, memory loss, headache, numbness, speech problems, unusual eye movements)
  • Blurred vision, double vision
  • Spinning sensation
  • High blood pressure, flushed face
  • Breathing problems, sore throat, cough, dry nose
  • Vomiting, nausea, diarrhea, constipation, stomach pain, dry mouth/throat, gas
  • Facial swelling, bruising, rash, itching, acne
  • Joint, muscle, or back pain, muscle twitching
  • Erection problems
  • Swelling in arms/legs, difficulty walking, weakness, pain, flu-like symptoms
  • Weight gain
  • Accidents, fractures, scrapes
RARE
  • Low blood sugar (most common in diabetics)
  • Loss of consciousness
  • Breathing difficulties, shallow breathing
  • Low blood platelets
  • Thoughts of suicide, hallucinations
  • Abnormal movements (twisting, jerking, stiffness)
  • Ringing in ears (tinnitus)
  • Yellow skin/eyes, liver inflammation
  • Sudden kidney failure, urine leakage
  • Breast enlargement
  • Withdrawal symptoms (e.g., anxiety, sleeplessness, nausea, sweating), chest pain
  • Muscle breakdown
  • Abnormal blood test results (increased creatinine phosphokinase)
  • Sexual problems (e.g., inability to orgasm, delayed ejaculation)
  • Low sodium in blood
  • Severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis)
  • Drug dependence

Important Warnings

  • Don't use if you're allergic to gabapentin or its ingredients.
  • Get medical help right away if you get severe skin reactions like rashes, blisters, fever, or swelling.
  • Contact your doctor right away if you have severe stomach pain, feel sick, and vomit (could be a sign of pancreas swelling).
  • Get medical help right away if you have trouble breathing, especially if it's severe.
  • Contact your doctor right away if you have a serious allergic reaction, such as a rash, fever, swollen glands, or swelling of the face/lips.

  • If you have thoughts of hurting yourself, contact your doctor right away.
  • Tell your doctor about kidney problems, as your dose might need to change.
  • Don't drive or use machines if the medicine makes you dizzy, sleepy, or tired.
  • Tell your doctor right away if you are pregnant, think you might be pregnant, or are planning to get pregnant. Do not stop taking the medicine suddenly.
  • Breastfeeding is not recommended while taking this medicine, as its effects on the baby are not known.
  • Tell your doctor if you've had problems with alcohol, prescription drugs, or illegal drugs, as you might get dependent on this medicine more easily.
