How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will tell you how much to take. The usual starting dose is 300-900 mg per day, and it can be increased up to 3600 mg daily.

Method

Swallow tablets whole with water, with or without food. Take it as your doctor instructs, usually three times a day.

Important

Do not take more than 3600 mg in one day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Viral infection
  • Feeling sleepy, dizzy, or clumsy
  • Feeling tired or having a fever
  • Pneumonia, breathing infections, bladder infections, ear infections, or other infections
  • Low number of white blood cells
  • Changes in appetite (eating less or more)
  • Hostility, confusion, mood swings, depression, anxiety, nervousness, or difficulty thinking
  • Seizures, twitching, speech problems, memory loss, tremors, sleeplessness, headache, numbness or tingling in the skin, coordination problems, unusual eye movements, or changes in reflexes
  • Blurred vision or seeing double
  • Feeling like the room is spinning (vertigo)
  • High blood pressure, flushing, or widened blood vessels
  • Breathing problems, bronchitis, sore throat, cough, or dry nose
  • Vomiting, nausea, dental problems, inflamed gums, diarrhea, stomach pain, indigestion, constipation, dry mouth or throat, or gas
  • Swelling in the face, bruises, rash, itching, or acne
  • Joint pain, muscle pain, back pain, or muscle twitching
  • Difficulty getting or keeping an erection (impotence)
  • Swelling in arms or legs, difficulty walking, weakness, pain, feeling generally unwell, or flu-like symptoms
  • Weight gain
  • Aggressive behavior in children
RARE
  • Agitation (feeling very restless with uncontrolled movements)
  • Allergic reaction, such as hives
  • Less movement than usual
  • Feeling your heart beat fast or unevenly
  • Swelling in the face, body, or limbs
  • Abnormal blood tests that show liver problems
  • Mental disturbance
  • Falls
  • High blood sugar levels (common in people with diabetes)
  • Difficulty swallowing
  • Low blood sugar levels (common in people with diabetes)
  • Fainting or losing consciousness
  • Severe breathing problems or very shallow breathing
  • Low number of platelets (blood cells that help with clotting)
  • Seeing or hearing things that aren't real (hallucinations)
  • Thoughts of harming yourself or suicide
  • Unusual movements, like twisting, jerking, or stiffness
  • Ringing in the ears (tinnitus)
  • Yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice) or liver inflammation
  • Sudden kidney failure or problems controlling urine
  • Increased breast tissue or breast enlargement
  • Withdrawal symptoms if you stop taking the medicine suddenly, such as anxiety, sleeplessness, nausea, pain, sweating, or chest pain
  • Breakdown of muscle tissue (rhabdomyolysis)
  • Changes in blood test results (like high creatine phosphokinase)
  • Sexual problems, including difficulty having an orgasm or delayed ejaculation
  • Low sodium levels in the blood
  • Very severe and life-threatening allergic reaction (anaphylaxis) with breathing problems, swelling of lips, throat, and tongue, and low blood pressure
  • Becoming dependent on Gabapentin Sandoz (drug dependence)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to gabapentin, soy, peanuts, or any other ingredients.
  • If you have kidney problems, your doctor may change your dose.
  • If you get bad stomach pain, nausea, and vomiting, tell your doctor right away. These could be signs of a serious problem with your pancreas.
  • Tell your doctor if you have ever had problems with alcohol or drug abuse, as you may be at higher risk of becoming addicted to this medicine.
  • Stop taking this medicine and get medical help right away if you get a severe skin rash, peeling skin, blisters, fever, or swollen glands. These can be signs of a serious allergic reaction.

  • Contact your doctor immediately if you have muscle weakness, tenderness, or pain, especially with fever or if you feel unwell. This could be a sign of serious muscle damage.
  • This medicine can make you dizzy, sleepy, or tired. Do not drive or use machines until you know how it affects you.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Sedative. Reduce the dose already in mild renal impairment. Note especially central nervous system adverse effects. Take the several interactions in the absorption phase into account. (updated 14.4.2025)
