How to Use

Dosage

Typically, the starting dose is 300-900 mg daily, which can be increased up to a maximum of 3600 mg daily as directed by your doctor.

Method

Take the tablets whole with plenty of water, divided into three separate doses throughout the day: morning, afternoon, and evening.

The maximum daily dose is 3600 mg.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Drowsiness, dizziness, lack of coordination.
  • Tiredness, fever.
  • Viral infection.
  • Aggressive behavior (especially in children).
  • Jerky movements.
  • Pneumonia, respiratory infection, urinary tract infection, ear infection or other infections.
  • Low white blood cell count.
  • Loss of appetite, increased appetite.
  • Aggression towards others, confusion, mood swings, depression, anxiety, nervousness, difficulty thinking.
  • Seizures, speech problems, memory loss, tremor, insomnia, headache, skin sensitivity, numbness, coordination problems, unusual eye movements, altered reflexes.
  • Blurred vision, double vision.
  • Spinning sensation (vertigo).
  • High blood pressure, flushing or widening of blood vessels.
  • Breathing difficulties, bronchitis, sore throat, cough, dry nose.
  • Vomiting, nausea, dental problems, inflamed gums, diarrhea, stomach pain, indigestion, constipation, dry mouth or throat, gas.
  • Swelling of the face, bruises, rash, itching, acne.
  • Joint pain, muscle pain, back pain, muscle twitching.
  • Difficulty getting an erection (impotence).
  • Swelling in the arms and legs, difficulty walking, weakness, pain, feeling unwell, flu-like symptoms.
  • Weight gain.
  • Accidental injury, fracture, abrasion.
RARE
  • Agitation (constant restlessness and involuntary movements).
  • Allergic reactions like hives.
  • Decreased movement.
  • Heart palpitations.
  • Swelling that can affect the face, body, and limbs.
  • Abnormal blood test results indicating liver problems.
  • Impaired mental performance.
  • Falls.
  • Increased blood sugar levels (mostly in diabetics).
  • Difficulty swallowing.
  • Decreased blood sugar levels (mostly in diabetics).
  • Loss of consciousness.
  • Breathing difficulties, shallow breathing (respiratory depression).
  • Decreased platelet count (blood cells important for clotting).
  • Hallucinations.
  • Suicidal thoughts.
  • Abnormal movements, such as twisting, jerking, and stiffness.
  • Ringing in the ears.
  • Yellowing of skin and eyes (jaundice), liver inflammation.
  • Acute kidney failure, inability to control urine.
  • Increased breast tissue, breast enlargement.
  • Withdrawal symptoms after stopping Gabapentin (anxiety, insomnia, nausea, pain, sweating), chest pain.
  • Muscle breakdown (rhabdomyolysis).
  • Changes in blood test results (increased creatine phosphokinase).
  • Sexual problems, including difficulty reaching orgasm, delayed ejaculation.
  • Low sodium in blood.
  • Severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis) with breathing difficulties, swelling of lips, throat, tongue, and low blood pressure.
  • Developing dependence on Gabapentin Sandoz (drug addiction).

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to gabapentin, soy, peanuts, or any other ingredients.
  • If you have thoughts of harming yourself or suicide, contact your doctor immediately.
  • Stop taking this medicine and seek immediate medical help if you develop severe skin rashes, such as red target-like spots, blisters, or skin peeling, often with fever or flu-like symptoms (Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis).
  • Stop taking this medicine and seek immediate medical help if you develop a widespread rash, high body temperature, and swollen lymph nodes (DRESS syndrome).
  • Contact your doctor immediately if you experience muscle weakness, tenderness, or pain, especially with fever or feeling unwell, as this could be a sign of serious muscle damage leading to kidney problems.

  • This medicine can cause dizziness, drowsiness, and tiredness. Do not drive or operate machinery until you know how it affects you.
  • If you are pregnant, think you might be pregnant, or are planning a pregnancy, tell your doctor immediately. Do not stop treatment without discussing it with your doctor.
  • Breastfeeding is not recommended while taking Gabapentin Sandoz, as the effects on the baby are unknown.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Sedative. Reduce the dose already in mild renal impairment. Note especially central nervous system adverse effects. Take the several interactions in the absorption phase into account. (updated 14.4.2025)
