How to Use
Dosage
The usual starting dose is 300–900 mg per day, gradually increased by your doctor.
Method
Swallow the capsules whole with water. You can take them with or without food.
Important
Do not exceed 3600 mg per day, usually split into three doses.
Possible Side Effects
COMMON
- •viral infection
- •drowsiness, dizziness, problems with coordination
- •fatigue, fever

- •changes in appetite

- •blurred vision, double vision
- •spinning sensation (vertigo)
- •high blood pressure, flushing, or widening of blood vessels

- •vomiting, nausea, dental problems, diarrhea, stomach pain, constipation, dry mouth, gas
- •facial swelling, bruising, rash, itching, acne
- •joint pain, muscle pain, back pain, muscle twitching
- •erection problems
- •swelling in arms and legs, walking problems, weakness, pain, feeling unwell, flu-like symptoms
- •weight gain
- •accidents, fractures, abrasions
- •in children: aggressive behavior, jerky movements
RARE
- •restlessness, involuntary movements
- •allergic reactions, such as hives
- •decreased movement
- •heart palpitations
- •difficulty swallowing
- •swelling of face, body, and limbs
- •abnormal blood tests (liver problems)
- •impaired mental performance
- •falls
- •high or low blood sugar (especially in diabetics)
- •loss of consciousness
- •breathing problems, shallow breathing
- •decreased platelets
- •suicidal thoughts, hallucinations
- •abnormal movements, such as writhing, twitching, stiffness
- •ringing in the ears
- •yellow skin and eyes, liver inflammation
- •sudden kidney failure, urinary incontinence
- •breast enlargement
- •withdrawal symptoms (anxiety, sleeplessness, nausea, pain, sweating, chest pain)
- •muscle tissue breakdown
- •abnormal blood tests (increased creatinine phosphokinase)
- •sexual dysfunction (inability to achieve orgasm, delayed ejaculation)
- •low blood sodium
- •anaphylaxis (severe allergic reaction with breathing difficulties and swelling)
- •drug dependence
Important Warnings
- Do not take if you are allergic to gabapentin or any other ingredient in this medicine.
- Tell your doctor if you have kidney problems or are on dialysis, especially if you feel muscle pain or weakness.
- If you have severe stomach pain, nausea, or vomiting, contact your doctor immediately, as this could be a sign of pancreatitis.
- Tell your doctor if you have nerve or breathing problems, or if you are over 65, as your dose may need to be adjusted.
- Tell your doctor if you have a history of alcohol, prescription medicine, or drug abuse, as you may have a higher risk of becoming dependent on this medicine.

- If you have thoughts of harming yourself, contact your doctor immediately.
- Stop using the medicine and contact your doctor immediately if you develop a severe skin rash, such as Stevens-Johnson syndrome or DRESS syndrome.
- If you experience muscle weakness, tenderness, or pain along with feeling unwell or having a high fever, contact your doctor immediately.
- Tell your doctor if you are taking pain medications (opioids) or medicines for depression, anxiety, or sleep problems, as they can interact with Gabapentin ratiopharm GmbH.
- If you take antacids, take Gabapentin ratiopharm GmbH capsules at least two hours after your antacid dose.
- If you are pregnant, planning to be pregnant, or breastfeeding, discuss the risks with your doctor before using this medicine. Do not stop treatment suddenly.
- This medicine can cause dizziness or tiredness. Do not drive or operate machinery until you know how it affects you.
