How to Use

Dosage

For adults, the usual starting dose is 300-900 mg daily, which can be increased up to 3600 mg daily. For children aged 6 and older, the dose is 25-35 mg per kg body weight daily.

Method

Take the capsules whole with plenty of water, with or without food, usually divided into three doses a day.

Important

The maximum daily dose for adults is 3600 mg.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Viral infection
  • Drowsiness, dizziness, lack of coordination
  • Tiredness, fever
  • Pneumonia, respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infection, ear infection or other infections
  • Low white blood cell count
  • Loss of appetite, increased appetite
  • Hostility, confusion, mood changes, depression, anxiety, nervousness, difficulty thinking
  • Convulsions, twitching movements, speech difficulties, memory loss, tremor, insomnia, headache, skin sensitivity, decreased sensation (numbness), coordination problems, unusual eye movements, increased, decreased, or absent reflexes
  • Blurred vision, double vision
  • Vertigo
  • High blood pressure, facial flushing and redness or widening of blood vessels
  • Breathing difficulties, bronchitis, sore throat, cough, dry nasal mucous membranes
  • Vomiting, nausea, dental problems, gingivitis, diarrhea, stomach pain, indigestion, constipation, dry mouth or throat, flatulence
  • Facial swelling, bruises, rash, itching, acne
  • Joint pain, muscle pain, back pain, muscle twitching
  • Erectile dysfunction (impotence)
  • Swelling of legs and arms, difficulty walking, weakness, pain, feeling unwell, flu-like symptoms
  • Decreased white blood cell count, weight gain
  • Accidental injury, fracture, abrasion
  • Aggressive behavior and twitching movements (in children)
RARE
  • Agitation (a state of chronic restlessness with involuntary and purposeless movements)
  • Allergic reaction, such as hives
  • Increased blood sugar level (most common in diabetics)
  • Decreased movement
  • Palpitations
  • Swelling that can occur in the face, upper body, and limbs
  • Impaired mental performance
  • Falls
  • Abnormal blood test results indicating liver problems
  • Difficulty swallowing
  • Low blood sugar level (most common in diabetics)
  • Loss of consciousness
  • Breathing difficulties, shallow breathing (respiratory depression)
  • Decreased platelet count (blood cells involved in clotting)
  • Low blood sodium level
  • Suicidal thoughts, hallucinations
  • Problems with abnormal movements, such as writhing, twitching movements, and stiffness
  • Ringing in the ears (tinnitus)
  • Yellowing of skin and whites of eyes (jaundice), liver inflammation
  • Muscle tissue breakdown (rhabdomyolysis)
  • Acute kidney failure, urinary incontinence
  • Increased breast tissue, breast enlargement
  • Sexual dysfunction including inability to achieve orgasm, delayed ejaculation
  • Side effects due to sudden cessation of gabapentin treatment (anxiety, insomnia, nausea, pain, sweating), chest pain
  • Changes in blood test results (increased blood creatinine phosphokinase level)
  • Anaphylaxis (severe, potentially life-threatening allergic reaction with breathing difficulties, swelling of lips, throat, and tongue, and low blood pressure requiring immediate treatment)
  • Development of dependence on Gabapentin Orion (drug dependence)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take Gabapentin Orion if you are allergic to gabapentin or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • If you have kidney problems or are on hemodialysis, your doctor may change your dose. Tell your doctor if you experience muscle pain or weakness.
  • Contact your doctor immediately if you develop symptoms like stomach pain, nausea, and vomiting, as these could be signs of acute pancreatitis.
  • A small number of people taking gabapentin have had thoughts of harming themselves or committing suicide. If you have these thoughts, contact your doctor immediately.
  • Stop taking Gabapentin Orion and seek medical attention immediately if you notice serious skin reactions like red target-like spots, blisters, skin peeling, or sores in the mouth, throat, nose, genitals, and eyes, possibly with fever and flu-like symptoms. Also seek immediate medical attention if you notice widespread rash, high body temperature, and enlarged lymph nodes (DRESS syndrome).

  • Seek immediate medical attention if you experience severe breathing difficulties, as this may require emergency care.
  • Gabapentin Orion can cause severe or life-threatening allergic reactions affecting the skin or other parts of the body, such as the liver or blood cells, possibly requiring hospitalisation or stopping the medication.
  • Muscle weakness, tenderness, or pain, especially if you also feel unwell or have a high fever, can be a sign of abnormal muscle breakdown which can be life-threatening and cause kidney problems. Contact a doctor immediately if you experience these symptoms.
  • Gabapentin Orion can cause dizziness, drowsiness, and tiredness. Do not drive or operate complex machinery until you know how this medicine affects you.
  • If you take too much Gabapentin Orion, contact a doctor, hospital, or poison control center immediately.
  • Do not stop taking Gabapentin Orion suddenly. If you want to stop, discuss it with your doctor first, and the treatment should be tapered off gradually over at least one week.
